Summary
This riveting sequel to the “glorious and touching” (USA TODAY) #1 New York Times bestseller picks up where It Ends with Us concluded and shares what happens next for Lily and Atlas.

Lily and her ex-husband, Ryle, have just settled into a civil coparenting rhythm when she suddenly bumps into her first love, Atlas, again. After nearly two years separated, she is elated that for once, time is on their side, and she immediately says yes when Atlas asks her on a date.

But her excitement is quickly hampered by the knowledge that, though they are no longer married, Ryle is still very much a part of her life—and Atlas Corrigan is the one man he will hate being in his ex-wife and daughter’s life.

Switching between the perspectives of Lily and Atlas, It Starts with Us picks up right where the epilogue for the “gripping, pulse-pounding” (Sarah Pekkanen, New York Times bestselling author ) bestselling phenomenon It Ends with Us left off. Revealing more about Atlas’s past and following Lily as she embraces a second chance at true love while navigating a jealous ex-husband, it proves that “no one delivers an emotional read like Colleen Hoover” (Anna Todd, New York Times bestselling author).

I’m so sad I loved it ends with us… but this story had NO plot and was VERY under developed. I wish Colleen had sat on this for awhile and fleshed out a true plot. There was a lot of potential , a lot of great characters to work with and Just fell flat. I’m so bummed I hope she does a third one thst she actually fleshes out and redeems herself and these characters that deserved better

Overhyped and underdeveloped….

Profile Avatar Anonymous Oct 2022

This was so disappointing and boring to be honest There was absolutely no plot

Profile Avatar KristenLeigh Nov 2022

Not as good as the first. Plot was blah but it was nice to close up some loose ends lingering from the first book.

Profile Avatar Anonymous Oct 2022

So disappointed- loved It Ends With Us and was looking forward to It Starts With Us but did not enjoy it very much at all - did not live up to all of the hype!!!!

Profile Avatar Lady B. Oct 2022

This was so so good. I think I had a huge smile on my face the whole time. So much love I'm this book.

Profile Avatar RaquelPaz Jan 2025

The book is juvenile at best. No harm in listening but meh… The Olivia Song deepening her voice each time she was reading a man’s interaction almost made me stop listening. That’s soooo ridiculous. Don’t do that.

Profile Avatar Jen Aug 2023

Another great read by Colleen Hoover! I loved that there was some sort of an extension of It Ends With Us. I loved both books so much, if I knew how to give 1/2 stars, I would have given one to narration for It Starts With Us. I accidentally read All the Little Pieces first so I may read it again, if not, it’ll definitely be another C.H. book!

Profile Avatar Mauricio E. Aug 2023

Nice

Profile Avatar Gina Jun 2023

Very disappointing! I hope they do not make two movies.

Profile Avatar Anonymous Jan 2023

I felt this book was rushed. There was no plot and I kept waiting for something to happen, but nothing ever did. A lot of repetition and wordy parts that just seemed to be filler. I fast forwarded through some of it.

Profile Avatar Elayne C. Dec 2022

I enjoyed this book

Profile Avatar Anonymous Dec 2022

I loved the book I think it was really good and sweet

Profile Avatar Susan G Fotos May 2025

good book. kept me interested. had to get next one just so I could keep going

Profile Avatar Olga S. May 2025

Narrator was great, easy listening and I didn't get easily distracted! Great book for audio. I didn't mind the narrator doing a deep voice for males. Plot had potential for drama but ultimately fell flat. Easy story , easy listening while cleaning the house

Profile Avatar Alletta R. Mar 2025

Loved it!!!

Profile Avatar Ninoshka R. Jan 2025

Very true about not having a plot and not as good as the first but it’s still the same characters I love and tied up a lot of loose ends. Still worth listening to in my opinion.

Profile Avatar Jerrica Jan 2025

I loved this book!

Profile Avatar Anonymous Jan 2025

This is a good book, but hard to get through. It doesn't have a solid plot, and not half as goodnas the first book.

Profile Avatar Anonymous Dec 2024

Great sequel and the narrators did a fantastic job!! Especially Olivia Song!!

Profile Avatar Deanna M. Dec 2024

Refreshing way to end Lily's story. I wish every victim of DV could have such a happy ending.

Profile Avatar Katie D. Nov 2024

This book definitely tied up some loose ends from the previous one. I did feel we could have gotten more of a storyline though. There was a few steamy moments but again, I wish there was more. Overall it was worth the read.

Profile Avatar Barbara S. Oct 2024

A good read.

Profile Avatar Andrea Oct 2024

It was a pretty decent listen

Profile Avatar Linda L. Oct 2024

I wish there was two different narrator for man and female or I just can’t tell. Overall much better in writing!

Profile Avatar Elissa R. Sep 2024

Maybe this says something about my taste (after reading the other reviews) but I really loved this book. It was a nice continuation and very sweet. I enjoyed the switch between perspectives. I wanted more.

Profile Avatar Vicki O. Sep 2024

So predictable after “IEnds with Us”!

Profile Avatar Vanesa P. Aug 2024

Awesome book!!!

Profile Avatar Joy G. Aug 2024

it's good, but the first book was alot better!.

Profile Avatar Gina R. Aug 2024

Not as good as first but still liked it

Profile Avatar Karoline Stangenes Aug 2024

To me this seemed like a rushed ending. Nothing like "It ends with us". Still, I'm glad to know the author's intentions for their future so if you liked "It ends with us" you should get through this as well, just don't have too high expectations...

Profile Avatar Brittany Aug 2024

this book was a feel good version of "it ends with us".like the happy ending to the first book. I loved the male narrator of this book, really I loved that they had a female narrator for Lily's part and the male narrator for Atlas' part. it almost made the book feel like you're watching a movie without actually seeing it. the ending was great, but I wish it could have went on and on. like, how Ryle's anger management went? did he improve? did things get better? did Ryle and Atlas ever get to the point of reconciliation for Lily's and Emerson's sake? I wanted so much more. I loved it so much.a must read, but read " it ends with us" first!

Profile Avatar Jenn C. Aug 2024

Wonderful second to the first. loved the story!

Profile Avatar Joshua S. Jul 2024

Loved it!!!!

Profile Avatar Rjackman May 2024

Beautiful story with an ending that has you reflecting on your own new chapters.

Profile Avatar Anonymous Feb 2024

GREAT BOOK! It Ends With Us broke my and It Starts With Us glued my heart back together

Profile Avatar Lesley K. Jan 2024

I was very much looking forward to this book. I only wish the book had more substance. Was very light and repetitive.

Profile Avatar Ivette V. Nov 2023

Great books. Part one and two are amazing.

Profile Avatar Katey W. Nov 2023

Amazing book!!!

Profile Avatar Jennifer H. Oct 2023

Love this book! Gives me sense of closure from the first book, but I want one more book for this series (:

Profile Avatar Brenda A. Sep 2023

Story line was good but to much of the lovemaking descriptions for me. I saw the author on TV and thought I would give it a read. I don't get the rave reviews at all

Profile Avatar Anonymous Sep 2023

I absolutely loved this series and am sad that I’m done with it

Profile Avatar Mark G. Sep 2023

I loved both books and was very pleased to hear the ending. <3

Profile Avatar Dawn A. Sep 2023

I read both books in this series and they aren’t my kind of book. I found the story boring and predictable.

Profile Avatar Rebecca B. Aug 2023

I loved this book!

Profile Avatar María S. Aug 2023

I have to say it was okay. Not the best, but not the worst either. It had potential to be great but everything was rushed and it jumped too far into another event that I thought I missed info.

Profile Avatar Anonymous Aug 2023

I liked the first book better but was happy the story continued in the second. Not much happened in this book, very predictable, but again I was happy to keep the story going.

Profile Avatar Anonymous Jul 2023

Loved loved loved the story! It was easy to follow along and was perfect for my drive to and from work. I wasn’t the biggest fan of the female narrator just because it didn’t match the voice I had imagined in my head

Profile Avatar Anonymous Jul 2023

Not much of a story! But I still like seeing where characters end up when books end abruptly (it ends with us). Narration from female wasn’t great- especially when she tried to do the male voice, it fell flat for me

Profile Avatar Anonymous Jun 2023

So many valuable lessons! Worth the read!

Profile Avatar Amanda C. Jun 2023

Kept waiting for it to get better but never did. Predictable and nothing like the first installment. A good story but could have been condensed into a few chapters after “It ends with us.” . Slow read and hard to finish bc it’s so boring.

Profile Avatar Amanda T. Jun 2023

Couldn’t put this book down. So good!

Profile Avatar Anonymous Jun 2023

Love

Profile Avatar Adena F. Jun 2023

The book was interesting enough to listen to all the way through since I enjoyed listening about Atlas and Lily’s love story, but she really should have ended it with it Ends with Us and called it a day. Not a lot of substance in this storyline.

Profile Avatar cindymachatton Jun 2023

I enjoyed the book but thought the ending was a bit flat.

Profile Avatar Gerry May 2023

I love all of Hoovers books.

Profile Avatar Anonymous May 2023

Colleen hoover is my new favorite

Profile Avatar Dee G. Apr 2023

Loved it!

Profile Avatar Amanda L. Apr 2023

Great follow up!

Profile Avatar Anonymous Apr 2023

I loved it! I laughed and cried.

Profile Avatar Ronni D. Mar 2023

The first book in the series was good so I looked forward to the sequel. However, It Starts with Us, was ridiculous! I had to skip most of it just to get to the end because the plot was so unrealistic and schmaltzy!

Profile Avatar Anonymous Feb 2023

The female narrator makes the book come off even more immature than the writing.

Profile Avatar Lesley T. Feb 2023

I really liked Ms Hoover's book " It Ends With Us", but this book," It Starts With Us" doesn't have much tension, action or suspense. I kept waiting for something significant to happen and then it was over. Lesley T

Profile Avatar Soledad A. Feb 2023

I enjoyed this book. I don’t want to spoil it to people but I love a happy ending. I also like how this book was more about Atlas.

Profile Avatar Amelia M. Feb 2023

This book felt so real. It had the good and the bad and I just can’t get enough of Lilly and Atlas!

Profile Avatar Karen H. Jan 2023

I couldn’t put it down! Great narrator great story!

Profile Avatar Nathalie B. Jan 2023

Repetitive and quite predictable…much preferred It ends with us

Profile Avatar Pamela M G. Jan 2023

Perfect

Profile Avatar Anonymous Jan 2023

I thought it was very toned & very remarkable

Profile Avatar Alenna N. Dec 2022

The book was lame and the narrators voice change when voicing Atlas was so jarring and unnecessary

Profile Avatar Joy S. Dec 2022

I enjoyed this and the narrator was very good. A little mature, but it was not rated for the very young.

Profile Avatar Anonymous Dec 2022

First of Colleen Hoovers books that didn’t have me not wanting to put my book down. Took me months to read, which then finally led me to download the audiobook for it. Finished it thanks to the audiobook, but there really was no plot. Did it “start” with Lily and Atlas? Or was the title meant for Josh? I’m pretty disappointed.

Profile Avatar Desire W. Dec 2022

Super predictable and boring.. So disappointing because the 1st book really made you think and feel a certain way for characters where is this book was just exactly what you figured.

Profile Avatar C J P. Dec 2022

Slow and need more plot

Profile Avatar Anonymous Nov 2022

amazing

Profile Avatar Tonya G. Nov 2022

Light read, nothing exciting but feel good follow up.

Profile Avatar Judy B. Nov 2022

Loved the book

Profile Avatar Crystal Y. Oct 2022

It's okay...I'm left wanting a little more from the story line. Boring and cheesy at times and I am not hard to entertain. Honestly, the book feels rushed like a cash would have waited longer to be able to really feel the passion between Atlas and Lilly. Can a book be lack Lustre?

Profile Avatar Anonymous Oct 2022

It was extremely boring and read like a self help book. The story lacked climax and substance and had a lot of repetition. The narrator was to perfect and precise.

Profile Avatar Jenna B. Oct 2022

Loved the book! Can't wait for the next!

Profile Avatar Brittany R. Oct 2022

Loved this series. Full of passion. Narrators were great to listen to.

Profile Avatar Annamaria M. Oct 2022

Loved how this book wrapped everything up!

Profile Avatar Anonymous Oct 2022

Love it!! A very real story in the lives of so many!

Profile Avatar Anonymous Oct 2022

I absolutely loved this book. I kind of wish it was longer

Profile Avatar Liz W. Oct 2022

great book for the second. good read if you're a fan of the first

Profile Avatar Melanie W. Oct 2022

absolutely loved it!!
