Summary
Uncover the inspiring life story of J.D. Vance in J.D. Vance: The Biography – From Hillbilly to Capitol Hill by Jordan Blake. This audiobook provides an intimate look at the man behind Hillbilly Elegy, tracing his path from the heart of Appalachia to the corridors of power in Washington, D.C.

Born into a family grappling with poverty and addiction, Vance’s early years were marked by instability and hardship. Yet, against the odds, he managed to escape the cycle of despair that ensnared so many around him. This biography offers a detailed exploration of Vance’s journey, highlighting his military service, his struggles and successes in higher education, and his eventual rise as a key figure in American politics and culture.

Through vivid storytelling and thoughtful analysis, Jordan Blake reveals how Vance's experiences in the working-class America of his youth informed his political views and shaped his role as a commentator on the nation’s socio-economic divides. This audiobook is essential listening for those interested in contemporary politics, social issues, and the personal stories that influence public life. It’s a compelling portrait of a man who has navigated the complex landscape of modern America, from the hills of Appalachia to the heights of Capitol Hill.

I bought this book hoping it would give me some insight to what is going on in the States, but is like it has been written by a robot, it is a string of facts, padded out with a lot of repetition. it doesn't interpret, analyse or explain. Although from the information I gleaned a few interesting facts which to piece together. Apart from Iraq he has no experience of the rest of the world. In his time in Iraq, the only time he interacted with civilians was when he gave an eraser to a small boy, From his time in Iraq he saw the futility and waste of lives and resources. But from this he has projected his experience on to all wars. Not being about to distinguish the situation between Iraq and Ukraine. His military experience was relatively junior. Then he is portrayed as this Yale Lawyer but again his experience is relatively limited, he only worked for a year or so in the profession. Then he went to finance. yet again his experience is very limited. only a year or two. He set up his own investment company. Im not quite clear from what was said but it seemed, only one of the companies he backed was successful for a few years and then went bankrupt. Then he was a senator but only for a year or two. All together perhaps having a taste of the military, legal and financial world is valuable. But it all seems dangerously flimsy to now be in the cockpit of the biggest Nationship on our fragile planet. Anyone who thinks it is OK to talk to Zelensky in the White House the way he did in the White House cannot get more than 1 star. Yes if things have to be said say in private. Anyone who thinks it is OK to dump Ukraine from one week to the next cannot get more than one star. That flimsy international experience would be OK if he was listening to those who do have more experience. Neither Vance nor USA can be trusted anymore.
