Summary
“Joyland is a breathtaking, beautiful, heartbreaking book....Even the most hardboiled readers will find themselves moved” (Charles Ardai, Edgar- and Shamus Award-winning editor of Hard Case Crime).

Set in a small-town North Carolina amusement park in 1973, Joyland tells the story of the summer in which college student Devin Jones comes to work as a carny and confronts the legacy of a vicious murder, the fate of a dying child, and the ways both will change his life forever. Joyland is a brand-new novel and has never previously been published.

Great story set in familiar location. I actually prefer Stephen kings non-horror tales.

This book was lovely. Like all of Stephen King's books, it was descriptive and had terrific character development - enough so you really felt like you were inside the main character's (Devon's) skin. It differed in that it wasn't a true horror story. It was more of a coming of age story/murder mystery lite. However you classify it, it was a terrific story and the reader did a great job with it. It kept my interest throughout.

This was a beautiful story with some moments of real pain and fear. Devon is such a likable character, and the setting of the amusement park is handled in a refreshingly different way. The narrator is excellent.

Stephen King captures my interest with the first paragraph of every book I've read or listened to, and this one is no different. The narrator is one of the best I've heard.

I believe this was a little different for a Stephen King novel. It is more of a character development story than horror. Sure there's a ghost, but the ghost is a relatively minor character. Well worth the time. The ending gives you some thoughts to reflect on.

Awesome book. I love Stephen King! The person reading may have used a bit more enthusiasm and character but otherwise it was a good read.

This was sold as a crime book/ ghost story. It is very little if either. As with 11/22/63 we are promised one story and given another. This is a coming of age story. Taken as such the story is a good one. However, sold as a crime/ ghost novel it is a broken promise.
