Unabridged Audiobook
Land is the story of an Irish family whose ordinary life is forever altered by an extraordinary mystery. A father, a surveyor, teaches his eldest son the craft of mapping the land. While surveying a remote peninsula, they discover a copse that doesn’t exist on any of the old maps. Beneath its supernatural elements, Land is a novel about inheritance- not just of property, but of memory, identity, and responsibility. It reminds us that the land holds stories long before we arrive and will continue to do so after we’re gone. It asks us to respect what came before us, understand what exists in the present, and accept what lies ahead. It’s also a deeply human story about family. As each member struggles to adapt to circumstances beyond their control, the novel explores love, loss, sacrifice, and the quiet ways people drift apart while still belonging to one another. I kept hoping for a sweeter reunion between the siblings in the end. But perhaps that’s precisely the point. Life doesn’t always offer perfect reconciliations. Sometimes we only realize what truly matters after we’ve stopped fighting who we are meant to be. And only then do we begin to understand the true meaning of family. ⭐️ ⭐️ ⭐️⭐️1/2
It’s a wonderful tribute to human history and our connection and interaction with land, weather, and animals. The story is heartfelt and sorrowful, but shines a light on the reality of life before the industrial age and then gives a hint of the mystical in the human relationship with earth.
Not really enjoying this book. Can’t connect with the characters.
