Kyle Jackowski, a sullen emo teenager struggling with his sexuality, faces trouble with the law. Instead of juvenile detention, he's given the chance to commute his sentence by working on a farm for the summer. There he meets Sam, the farm owners' son, who helps Kyle understand that his feelings are normal and he doesn't need to hide. Sam's parents, Glenda and Walt, show Kyle that his abusive home life with his stepfather isn't the norm. Through their love and support, Kyle finds his place in the world, by Sam's side.
