The Laughing Girl

Michael O'Ryan unexpectedly inherits a Swiss property during wartime, only to find a deserted chalet and a mysterious, red-headed maid named Thusis. The local authorities insist he must operate the estate as a hotel, leading to a humorous and absurd situation as he navigates bureaucratic demands and societal expectations. Amidst this, O'Ryan becomes intrigued by the maid, whose appearance resembles a treasured photograph of 'the laughing girl'. The story blends romance, mystery, and a touch of adventure, exploring themes of identity, fate, and the interplay between personal desires and external pressures.
