Leadership Unraveled: Living with a Bullseye on Your Back

As a leader in organizations for over 30 years I have been trained in, and read extensively on the topic of Leadership. Later in my career, I frequently provided leadership training to supervisors, managers and fellow CEOs. The term 'risk' for leaders almost exclusively applies to risk to the organization, the employees, the customers and clients served. Rarely is there thought given to risk to the one who steps up to lead in any capacity (team leader, supervisor, manager, director or CEO). This book focuses on being prepared as a leader for risk to self, and the inherent threats and danger as part of the job. How to be aware, take care of yourself, rebound and be resilient while continuing to build your career despite these risks. I present a career threatening situation of being a successful leader for 5 years and finding myself being told on a late Friday afternoon: 'We the Board have decided to go in a new direction. You can resign or be fired'; with no reason given.

This book uses my personal story as a springboard for anyone new to leadership, anyone who currently is in a leadership role, or for a coach or consultant who provides support to those who serve as leaders in the work setting. I highlight being aware and prepared for risk to self, recovering if the dramatic event occurs to you, and how to move forward in your career. While the story begins with my fall from grace, it ends with you and the importance of the mindset of awareness, how to recover, and strategies for moving forward in your career.
