Unabridged Audiobook
I really enjoyed this book. The story flows beautifully, the writing is a little green but I think the author finds their footing after the first few chapters. I can’t wait to see what happens next.
Its the first book in a long time that had me clinging to each and every page. The magic, young love and bravery. I hate that I'm almost done with it... Can't wait for the other book!
I wish the story was as interesting as the clover is beautiful
This was so good! reminded me immediately of the Mortal Instruments series (which I LOVE), mixed with Arthurian legend. I went in without knowing much about this, just that it’s a well-loved book/series, and that it was YA romantasy. I was pleasantly surprised that it’s Urban fantasy, and set in academia. I LOVE Bree, she’s such a great FMC. She’s definitely still so young (only 16), and I can’t wait to see her growth throughout the series - we already got to see quite a bit of it in this first book. I’m very partial to one of the male characters, but I’ll avoid spoiling too much here Tracy Deonn touched on so many heavy topics in this story, from racism, sexism, grief, & more, and I feel like she handled them with care. this is a story that’s so much more than a “YA romantasy” - Bree goes on a journey that starts with wanting to learn more about her mom’s death, and ends up learning so much more about her own identity, her family’s history, and her magic/power. there was definitely a section early on that just had too much info-dumping (hence the loss of a 1/2⭐️ for me). I was buddy reading with friends, and I think it was day 2 that I sort of zoned out for most of it Thankfully the rest seemed to have the world building details sprinkled in a little better. I’m definitely hooked and will be continuing for sure, I have so many questions, and I’m very curious to see how certain things are going to play out (especially the romance part). the audio was fantastic, Joniece Abbott-Pratt did a fantastic job giving each character a voice & I really enjoyed her narration style. audio + paperback | ⭐️: 4.5 |
I love this book. The point of view and description of the story from a black woman’s perspective is amazing.
For a Fantasy YA, it rings all the bells. I couldn’t guess some twists and for that, I’m thankful. The narrator kept my interest on the different character voices.
This book is a 15 out of 10. This is by far the best fantasy novel to date about a believable black character written in today's time. It brings in all the culture themes from today with the history of blacks in the South. The narrator does not disappoint. You will be glad you picked this one.
Absolutely loved this series. I can’t wait for the fourth book! Couldn’t stop listening!
Such an amazing start to the series. Well-developed characters. Great balance with the magical and reality, myths and traumatic truths, history and modern day, pain and strength. Loved it. Definitely a book I will be going back to re-read/listen.
obsessed with how unique and original this is. so many genres in one and so compelling
what a good book it's so good I barely put it down
I don’t know much about Arthurian lore and I think that hurts the reader because I was so confused a good portion of the story. So many great aspects: the fraternity aspect, the bloodlines, the possible love triangle, the best friend, the secrets. Definitely can see this becoming a CW tv sensation
Omg I loved this book and the narrator…. I couldn’t stop listening
Enjoyed every second!
