Unabridged Audiobook
Let Us Prey is book two in the Apex Academy Capers series and it turns the heat up in every possible way: danger, drama, humor, and yes… the tension. Delores Drew is still very much the underdog walking into a viper’s nest, and I love that about her. She’s not suddenly fearless. She’s hurt. She’s angry. She’s figuring it out in real time. But what makes this story work is that she refuses to fold, even when literally everyone seems to want her gone. Apex Academy continues to feel cutthroat and unpredictable. The politics, the bullying, the power plays are messy in that elite-academy way where no one’s hands are clean. And then you add in a dead body with a note pinned to it? The stakes escalate fast. I love the professor dynamic and that there are some grumps in the mix. You’re constantly wondering who’s genuine, who’s manipulating, and who might actually burn the whole place down for her. The balance between humor and danger is one of my favorite things about this series. It doesn’t take itself too seriously, but it never loses the edge either. What I continue to enjoy is that Delores isn’t trying to be sweet about surviving. She’s done being prey. There’s something satisfying about watching her lean into her resilience instead of apologizing for it. The narration by Kayden Lukakis and Michelle Price adds another layer of personality to the story. Michelle Price nails Delores’ sarcasm and emotional vulnerability, making her feel layered and real. You can hear the bite in her voice when Delores is cracking and when she’s ready to fight back. Kayden Lukakis brings a controlled intensity to the male voices that fits the dominant, morally gray energy perfectly. Especially in those tense or heated moments. Together, their performances help separate characters clearly and keep the pacing tight, which is important in a story with this much chaos happening at once. The dual narration makes the tension feel more immersive, especially in confrontational scenes. It pulls you in instead of letting you passively listen. If you like academy romance with teeth, shifter chaos, mystery threaded through the drama, and a heroine who refuses to stay small, this one keeps the momentum going. As always be mindful of trigger warnings, what I like you may not. Happy Listening
Sooo addictive, I cannot wait for the next book in the series to hear all about Dolly and her fated mates and the trouble they get into.
I really enjoyed this 2nd installment of the Apex series. The development of the characters was very entertaining. Fitz is my favorite by far. I am also partial to the book loving dragon. I highly recommend checking out the audiobook as well. The narration is pure gold and brings the characters to life.
The audiobook was engaging, and the narrators were great. The only drawback was when a MMC was recalling what a FC was saying, the high pitch voice that the male narrator used was a little irritating. That than that, the story drew me in and kept me captivated. I have read multiple books by this author, and continue to enjoy her work. Join Dolly and her gaggle of guys as they try to navigate the logistics of first dates and mates, all while being targeted by a killer or two.
4.25⭐️ I got an alc, but my rating/review are my own! the audiobook was phenomenal Zodiac academy but why choose? yes yess I'm hoping we will get more prolonged sex scenes I can't wait to find out more
*Audiobook Review* I really enjoyed the audio for this; hearing Fitz's lines just made me appreciate him so much more! His energy is infectious and you cannot help but fall for him a little. Kayden Lukakis does a great job with the various MMCs and I liked his Aubrey and Ren scenes in particular; it really captured that old married couple vibe. There are also some cracking one liners that did make me real life LOL and Aubrey's rotation of food related nicknames for Dolly was cute. Although this starts off with some strong bullying (the dorm room - gross), the focus moves onto Dolly's relationships and her own development pretty quickly. The Heathers are still out to get Dolly but the bullying becomes more tell than show and I didn't feel that sense of foreboding as badly as I did in the prequel. As much as I want to trust Ru-ru and Coco though, I'm not quite there yet as I think there is more to at least one of them than meets the eye. This is a long book but the pacing towards the end really ramps up. After a few off page time jumps I was ready for it to kick up a gear and it definitely did that. The audio had a sneaky bonus scene so the cliffhanger wasn't too bad; I'm hoping Felix's time to shine is coming too as he is miles behind in this slow burn romance. Even Aubrey has had his date! My interpretation of the star system; 3 stars - I enjoyed it; would read the author again 4 stars - I really liked it; I am invested and definitely want more from this author/series 5 stars - I loved it; I engaged with this book completely until I finished it and it is one I will re-read
As Dolly (Delores) gets closer to her guys at Apex Academy students are going missing and a couple have ended up dead..
This book focuses on Dolly's first year at Apex Academy. The mean girls are also there but they are minor problems compared to what Dolly and her men face. Dolly grows in confidence and strength over the year and her men have her back. This is a brilliant second book. I look foreword to the next book. The narration is excellent
