Summary
In the years 1804, 1805, and 1806, two men commanded an expedition which explored the wilderness that stretched from the mouth of the Missouri River to where the Columbia enters the Pacific, and dedicated to civilization a new empire. Their names were Meriwether Lewis and William Clark. This book relates that adventure from its inception through its completion as well as the effect the expedition had upon the history of the United States. (Summary from the text and Roger Melin)

I was looking for an abridged and narrated version that provided some "back story" and period correct editorial. This fit the bill.

Great story but I've read more detailed accounts of the journey than this book offers. I liked the narrator however. If your mildly interested in their adventure this might satisfy you.

This depicted the hardships and challenges they came up against. In the age it is impossible comprehend what they went through. How did they do it without cellphones.

Not the most in depth perspective of this journey but informative. The narration was wonderful.

For a book that was written a century after the event and a century ago, it was a listenable and enjoyable. It was written without the benefit of the scholarship and discoveries of the the last hundred years and within the cultural river of the year 1900. The author did not find it necessary to criticize and second guess the explorers. He was writing for a popular audience and not academia.
