Lirael: Daughter of the Clayr

Unabridged Audiobook

Written By: Garth Nix

Narrated By: Tim Curry

Publisher: Listening Library (Audio)

Date: May 2002

Duration: 14 hours 44 minutes

Summary:

Lirael has never felt like a true daughter of the Clayr. Abandoned by her mother, ignorant of her father's identity, Lirael resembles no one else in her large extended family living in the Clayr's glacier. She doesn't even have the Sight--the ability to See into the present and possibly futures--that is the very birthright of the Clayr.

Nonetheless, it is Lirael in whose hands the fate of the Old Kingdom lies. She must undertake a desperate mission under the growing shadow of an ancient evil--one that opposes the Royal Family, blocks the Sight of the Clayr, and threatens to break the very boundary between Life and Death itself. With only her faithful companion, the Disreputable Dog to help her, Lirael must find the courage to seek her own hidden destiny.

One of my favorite series of all time, and Tim Curry is one of the best narrators I've ever heard. I re-listen every year or so.

When I was young I fought my librarian weekly on when was it appropriate for my 11 years of age to read this book. Garth Nix had opened up a whole different type of world to me. And then when I had found the series again in my 20's knowing that Tim Curry would be the voice in my head so to speak I was thrilled. A gentlemen. A most splendid rendition.

these books are super complex but so interesting. I'm a 'grown up' and I totally enjoy all of them. Strong female lead that is more logical than simpering and always getting into intellectual trouble. Really good. Tim Curry is a boss for a narrator.
