As much as our society talks about 'lifting the stigma' against mental illness, persons with schizophrenia are still faced with inhospitable and unwelcoming attitudes that deprive them of their human right to community and put their lives in existential harm right from the moment of their conception. As the Church, we have an obligation to welcome them and to provide them the care they need, but we can't just have good intentions--we need to understand what they're afflicted with and what kind of help they need. This book not only contains practical information and suggestions, bought by hard-won experience, about how to provide meaningful pastoral care for persons with schizophrenia, but also proposes theological reflections on how Christ is manifested in these persons and in their situations.
