The book is great, the narrator does an excellent job and it kept me riveted throughout I’ve just finished watching season one of the tv adaptation and I have to say if you love the books you will love the show very close to source material only a few changes which I think work well
Absolutely loved the book. I’ve already started listening to the second one. Jonathan Stroud does a brilliant job at building suspense and hiding surprises behind every page. His descriptions of the Visitors, every person in the story, as well as their surroundings, are easy to visualise and it’s easy to feel a sense of connection to the main protagonists. I was drawn in from the first page of this book and loved it to the very end.
Miranda Raison, the narrator, only adds to the intensity of the book. There were a few moments where I could feel my heart beating faster and was on the edge of my seat. The voices Miranda has given the protagonists suit the image I had of them in my head and helps to easily define the transition between conversations and narrative. Miranda also does a spectacular job at conveying the roller coaster of emotions the protagonists experience throughout the book and this is what helps draw you in and connects you to them. The depth this creates only adds to the overall mood of the book. In fact, I enjoyed Miranda’s narration so much that I was slightly disappointed when I began listening to the second book and realised Miranda wasn’t the narrator.
very enjoyable audiobook
