While listening to this at work, there were points where I had to pause and choke back the tears that were starting to form. I’d like to say thank you to every person who has made such sacrifices in their life to give us the freedoms we seem to take for granted all to often.
Well written by a true American hero. Much respect for Marcus, as a well as every other man and woman that serves. THANK YOU! It's a powerful story that's often hard to hear in more ways than one. I've often felt that ROE's cost more lives than they save. It's a double edge sword, but I'd rather it cost some unfortunate "collateral" damage than cause any soldier to fear prison and die because of such fear. If the damn politicians want to start wars, maybe they should go fight them. If they're not willing to do that then they really need to shut the hell up and let our men and women do what they need to do.
INCREDIBLE! Much like everyone else I have seen the movie as well and it does not do the story justice. This gives an amazing detailed perspective on how much the men & women of our military sacrifice to keep us safe. Narrator did a wonderful job in making this story feel as if you're right there in the action. Thank you to all military and thank you Marcus for your devotion to the people.
I really enjoyed the book and it keeps you on the edge of your seat throughout. The author probably adds too much "political commentary" and he repeats himself quite a bit in regards to the "liberals." I wholeheartedly get his point about the media though, as they will create the story to sell their papers. I am flabbergasted by the amount of work and incredible sacrifice that goes into becoming a Navy Seal. Thanks to all that serve our country.

So different from the movie. I like it better when it coincides better. God was with all our soldiers on Operation Red Wing!

Great narration and an even greater story.
I should have read the book rather than listen to it. The narrator’s reading is sooo corny. I do love Marcus; I’m a huge fan of his and We need him and his brothers in this world. His account is important for us humans to know, so that we never take for granted those that go to such effort, commitment, bravery, and hubris to counter evil and hate. I wish him the beat. I will do him the honor of reading the pages conventionally, and try to get the narrator’s acting out of my head.

Kept me on the edge of my seat. Very well written and narrated. The fact that a person can survive to "tell the tale" is remarkable in itself. Much respect to our military who put their lives on the line to protect ours.
Wow!! They are incredible men so proud of them. I had my moments it was very hard for me to continue to read but I did and I cried. Thank you gentlemen. I enjoyed the narrator very much.
An inspiring book highlighting the harsh reality of war as well as the consequences of the American media caring more about headlines than about hard choices soldiers must make.

Sorry, but I couldn't even finish it. The story was good, but the underlying glorification of war and those who make a career of it was too much. Very preachy.
Very amazing book.Very inspirational and I would recommend for older ages. My middle schooler loved it. Narrator did amazing and made me felt like I was in the book. Totally recommend!!!!

Amazing description of what it takes to be a Navy Seal. This book is something you will never forget. God's protection of Marcus is obvious throughout this ordeal in his life. Men like Marcus who protect and defend America are in my prayers.

I haven read a book cover to cover in many years. This book is by far the best and will probably read it again. Awesome read. A tear jerker, when his team died, to when he was rescued to when he FINALLY was able to see his mother. A MUST REAF

I couldn't put it down. I followed along the trials and tribulations of a journey thats unimaginable for any one man to endure. I cried, laughed and was gripped by what came next. I thoroughly enjoyed Lone Survivor and highly recommend. Thank you for your service and your story.

The book is great! But the narrator needs to bring it back a bit. It became hard to focus on the context and content of the book because he was reading it like Shakespeare or Soap Opera. All I could see was over dramatic flailing and wailing. Edgar Allen Poe's "Tell Tail Heart" comes to mind.
Great recap of the most heroic story I have ever heard. Being a former Navy brother I could not be more proud of the the SEAL teams. I will wear my Second Class PO with more pride thanks to these warriors. I just wish they never had to worry about killing innocent non-combatants . And go to jail for it. They would all be alive. A gripping tale of heroism and gallantry and a glimpse inside SEAL life and brotherhood. I finished it in 2 sittings and could not stop listening.
Not only is it a well writen book, people need to know what kind of men these guys were. I loved this book.

Even though you know the ending (based on a true story) - the author does a great job of laying it out with suspense. It also gives you something to think about - facing tough decisions.
One of the best audio books I have heard. It shows how our military are compassionate men. As a result, it comes back to haunt them or be a fatal mistake. Media personnel should read or hear this before slamming the military for their actions.

Terrible read. Not worth the time. Plenty of other much more subtle and restrained books out there in terms of heroism and Navy Seals.
Marcus reminds us that liberalism belongs in warm, dry, comfortable places and the majority of protesters about the way America does business have never heard a shot fired in anger. Every media pundit, every politician should have to read this to understand harm's way. By making a "politically correct" decision, 3 of Marcus's team get killed. It is a travesty in this country to allow such waste of life. Marcus and all the other men on a wire keeping us safe at night deserve our undying respect and gratitude for taking their turn standing watch. And the rest of this country deserves to get it's butt kicked for allowing rules to be written that cause young men harm like this.
I would recommend this to anyone that wants to feel like they are on the front lines of dealing with al Kaida. Written to the point that one feels like they are there. It goes beyond just the action that happened during the Operation. It shows that people around the world, that are not provoking war, are the same. Won't say anymore. But Highly recommend this book.
