Judith Singer is back! After twenty years Susan Isaacs reintroduces us to the heroine of Compromising Positions, her first and most beloved novel, and returns to a great suspense story set in suburbia. Judith's life has changed. She now has her doctorate in history. She is also a widow. Her husband, Bob, died one half day after triumphantly finishing the New York City Marathon in four hours and twelve minutes. And although twenty years have passed without her seeing Nelson Sharpe of the Nassau County Police Department, Judith still cannot get her former lover out of her system.
Then comes a mystery. Courtney Logan, investment banker turned suburban mom, vanishes from Long Island into thin air. All eyes turn instantly to her husband, Greg Logan, son of local mobster 'Fancy' Phil Lowenstein. But since there is no body, there is no arrest. Then Judith hears the Logans' pool man on all-news radio, where he tells a reporter that he opened the pool and found ... a body. Now it's officially homicide. And Judith comes alive! She offers her services to the police's chief suspect, Greg Logan, but he shows her the door, thinking her just another neighborhood nut. His father, however, isn't so sure: Fancy Phil may have other plans for Judith Singer.

This book was fine if you like the gentle pace of Murder She Wrote type stories. The main characters are older, steadfast, sensible sorts. The chemistry between the lead male and female was as exciting as a comfy pair of old jeans. I prefer a little more suspense, energy, and excitement in my books. The female narrarator's New York accent was annoying.

I enjoyed the book, it caught me by surprise several times and was very entertaining. The main character was just that a character and I grew to like her and experince the book through her eyes. I would recommend the book to anyone that reads Mary Higgins Clark, Sue Grafton and light mysteries like those.

Had some interesting facets but the listener needs to know the background of the first story to follow.

This was a fantastic listen! Great story made even better by the author narration. Susan Isaacs has the perfect Queens accent that makes you forget that long drive to work. I actually looked forward to getting in the car, knowing that this was in the CD player.

Really great book, I had a hard time putting it down. Or should I say turning off the CD player! It was really a great "who done it."
