Unabridged Audiobook
Nick Hornby creates very quirky, funny characters. I loved this book from start to finish. The plot is a clever premise and the characters stay true to form the entire book. The recording, with different voices for the different characters, was excellent.
This starts out well with the four different voices adding interest. But drags on with no end and sight. If you make it to the end of the CDs expect to be disappointed.
I thought the idea was clever, but it just didnt pan out for me! I was so bored by the last CD that I sent it back before i even listened to it! I did like how each part was read by a different narrator, it made you "see" the characters...If you like this type of humor, it is an enjoyable read, but if its not your thing, it will most likely leave you quite bored!
This is a very entertaining audio book about four individuals with very different backgrounds who come together to help each other when they need it most. The voices are very well done and they story moves along quickly. I have read other Nicky Hornby books and if you like some of his other material, you will enjoy his trademark irony and humor in this selection as well.
The book started out pretty good, but by the end I was so sick of hearing these character whine about thier lives that I really didn't care what happened to them. Before I got tired of listening to it, I did find it funny and amusing. I liked how the book was written by each character and you got to hear the characters point of view. I probably would not recommend this book to my friends but I did enjoy parts of it.
I thought the premise sounded very dark - 4 people who meet when they're ready to commit suicide. But the characters are really well written, and it definitely provided some food for thought. I thought the book was great.
This book was entertaining, and was made more interesting by the different voices on the audio book. It was slightly insightful but more funny than provocative. I rate this book one out of five stars because of the horrible language. Expect to hear the "F" word multiple times every minute. It was such overkill that it really took away from the book. While I understand the concept of having the different characters speak in their own words to show their personalities - three out of the four characters used this word non-stop throughout the entire audiobook. Isn't that a bit much? Also expect a fair amount of Bush bashing. The author got his digs in several times about how The President is stupid, war monger, etc. I'm glad the author isn't in the President's position on the war on terror.....I suppose he'd use the F word to retaliate against the terrorists :)
