Unabridged Audiobook
This is the awful BBC 'dramatization', not a reading of the book.
This is the radio adaption I listened to as a kid!! Bringing back a lot of nostalgia. I never thought I’d find it again!
Best dramatic audio presentation by far. BBC did a great job. So, good that it influenced Peter Jackson's version (for example, Ian Holmes plays Frodo here-Bilbo in the movie). I read the books once a year and take turns listening to this production and the unabridged audiobook in my car commuting several times per year. Other than a few mispronounced words, the performances are excellent, and they do a good job not overusing narration. Though needed in some places, particularly in Return of the King, it's discrete, leaving imagery to the dialog. Avoid the American audio drama. Pretty bad. Tolkiens work needs a British accent.
in three words? I hated it. I hated it so much. I laughed. I read the book multiple times and this audiobook was a complete missile for me.
Not what I thought I was going to listen to
I remember listening to this dramatised version back in 82 and it’s nostalgic to hear it again. A bit hammy in places but adheres to JRR’s text more closely than Jackson’s movies.
A movie in my mind!
great collection of actors, the only down side of this book is the music is a bit campy.....
