Unabridged Audiobook
Firstly the girls aren’t lost so if the romantic title makes you think you’re getting a sweeping and complex mystery, that is not this book. If you want a short easy listen that’s not too complex, this may be the book. The narrator is pretty good, but the characters have all the same accent.
Maybe it's because I'm American and love English voices, but I don't think so. Clare Corbett was excellent. The many characters she represented were clear in my head, and the pacing and story were compelling. Brava! Author and narrator are both on my list to follow and enjoy again soon, I hope.
First book in the series and I am hooked. Completed over 3 nights which is very quick for me! Great characters who you soon warm to. Very well read. Can’t wait to start the second book! Highly recommended
Cozy mystery, a nice read.
This was one of my VIP books. It was a good story but a little robotic at times. I’ll read the 2nd in the series to see if the writing and narration improve.
Enjoyed it. Off to see if there is a sequel
So I just to start by saying that it’s a story people… not real life, not your social media app… a story… it’s made up! If you can’t relax enough to just listen and not rip it apart because you think it should be some other way or it’s not believable to you than maybe you should not listen or better yet you should try writing a book yourself….. It’s an easy listen… it a mystery! I have listened to a lot of these books and I found it enjoyable and relaxing! I thought the write and the narrator good a good job.
A casual listen!
Great book - it hits home how easy this can happen
Good story and liked the characters
Predictable, unrealistic, convenient break in the case wraps it all up. Why would a small police force put half its man power and resource in a 25 year old murder case when young children are disappearing back to back in the time span of a week. Yes, they do tie together in the end. However there is no knowledge gained from the murder case that helps with the more pressing issue of finding the children or preventing the loss of the third child. The reviews on this book are misleading at best, complete charity at worst. Throughout the story I kept thinking, “that’s dumb” or “why not do…” or “why in the….”. Just a time filler as I was driving.
Relatable characters and interesting twists -
Really enjoyed this book, I couldn't stop listening
Excellent read.
I loved hearing all the Cornwall references, and the narrator did an excellent job! I was invested from start to finish. However, I think there could have been more depth in the story. I enjoyed it anyhow.
A great story and a brilliant narrator.
I really enjoyed this story and the narrator was excellent, I used to spend my summers in Penzance as a child and it felt like the title was begging me to chose it, I'm so glad I did
Ok bit predictable
Reasonable story but not good enough to “hook” me unfortunately. Having lived in Cornwall & Devon I’m familiar with the area & found descriptions of it lacking, it felt like they’d been gleaned from maps & guide books. The hospital at St Ives closed in 2020 & was a cottage hospital unlikely to have the facilities for the girls. There was no mention of Truro Hospital, the main hospital for Cornwall with A&E facilities & the Paediatric Consultant who treated the girls & which is where the girls would have been taken. Clare Corbet’s narration & voices were adequate although I’m not sure that it was a Cornish accent she used or a generic country folk accent. I’m sorry but I’m unlikely to read any other books by Sally Rigby.
This book will not play for me. The app glitches on this book. I was only able to make it through the first few chapters. just enough to get me hooked before it wouldn't play. This is the 2nd book this has happened with. It sucks and I'm considering closing my subscription all together.
It was okay. I just don’t quite know how to categorize it. I didn’t like the characters very much. The Police procedure wasn’t great and we expect technical accuracy these days. It read like ‘cozy crime’ but the subject matter wasn’t. I’ve read worse but that’s not much of a recommendation, sorry!
