A BuzzFeed Best Summer Read of 2021

When a fake relationship between scientists meets the irresistible force of attraction, it throws one woman's carefully calculated theories on love into chaos.

As a third-year Ph.D. candidate, Olive Smith doesn't believe in lasting romantic relationships--but her best friend does, and that's what got her into this situation. Convincing Anh that Olive is dating and well on her way to a happily ever after was always going to take more than hand-wavy Jedi mind tricks: Scientists require proof. So, like any self-respecting biologist, Olive panics and kisses the first man she sees.

That man is none other than Adam Carlsen, a young hotshot professor--and well-known ass. Which is why Olive is positively floored when Stanford's reigning lab tyrant agrees to keep her charade a secret and be her fake boyfriend. But when a big science conference goes haywire, putting Olive's career on the Bunsen burner, Adam surprises her again with his unyielding support and even more unyielding...six-pack abs.

Suddenly their little experiment feels dangerously close to combustion. And Olive discovers that the only thing more complicated than a hypothesis on love is putting her own heart under the microscope.

It was ok, didn't live up to the hype for me though.

My friend and I love this book and we can’t stop talking about it. I think we have read it at least five times each. We love Adam Carlsen and the humor in the book. Can only say good thing about this book. And maybe I like it more because of my friend but I promise it is a good book if you love romances

A really cute and funny love story. No surprises and at times a bit slow in the story. But I definitely enjoyed it a and a perfectly feel good story. One would have a heart of stone to not fall a bit for Adam.... Or feel the heat in a specific chapter.

This book mixed my love for slowburn romance with my undying love for all things science. I highly recommend this read to anyone who feels the same!

Honestly I wasn’t sure what to expect because there was so many mixed reviews. But this book was truly so good. I really enjoyed how light and easy of a read it was !

Maybe have bonus chapter guy voice ML parts throughout. Sometimes it is difficult to tell who is taking between Olive and Ahn. The book gives an interesting perspective on the world of academia. It is almost completely unregulated and ruthless. Full of scandals and the angst of dating. And this depicts how good *** can be. The quirks are somewhat relatable in the characters.

Romcom in a book- I loved it!!

It’s a good book. I love how everybody is so smart and intelligent. Everyone seems to be very educated, whereas and some books there’s a dumb, naïve woman who doesn’t know her self, and just falls until love so easily. I love how academia was introduced to this book along with romance.

I seriously don't understand the buzz over this book. The characters are really boring and I don't feel any connection to them at all while reading. Olive is an adult but acts like a cringy 15 year old through out the whole book and it made me uncomfortable. I couldn't even finish the book because it was so stereotypical and boring. Not for me

I stayed up until 5:46am finishing this book in one sitting. It was completely worth getting admonished by my acupuncturist/naturopath later on that day when I confessed to her my sleepless sins during my weekly acupuncture appointment, lol. 4.5 stars ✨

I don’t read a lot of contemporary romances, but I really liked this. Faking dating with the guy falls first

I LOVED THIS BOOK! There were times when I was frustrated with Olive but 99% of the time I was screaming(for joy), happy, crying, FREAKING OUT. But mostly swooning over Adam Carlsen. Her writing was so relatable and I literally didn’t want to put the book down but at the same time was forcing myself to put the book down so that it wouldn’t end so quickly. LOVE LOVE LOVED! Will recommend to all my friends. I need more!

I’ve only ever heard good things about this book, so… am I missing something here?? I forced myself to keep going even though I was bored throughout the entire story, holding onto a thin thread of hope thar it would get better. And it didn’t. The characters were so bland; I couldn’t care less about any of them. The storyline was so nothing. Every “big event” that happened was so anticlimactic and blown past so quickly. This didn’t feel like a romance one bit. I really wanted to love this book.

The narrator was EXCELLENT! Enjoyed the book immensely, even though Olive’s utter cluelessness irritated me to no end. I absolutely LOVED Adam, Malcolm and Holden.

I could not stop once I started… had me begging for more and just when you think things could not get anymore dramatic the author throws in another cliffhanger. 10 out of 10 for me… sad the read is over.
