Summary
A NEW YORK TIMES NOTABLE BOOK OF 2018

Shakespeare’s dark and tragic play retold in a heart-pounding New York Times bestselling thriller from the author of The Snowman and The Thirst.

Set in the 1970s in a run-down, rainy industrial town, Jo Nesbo's Macbeth centers around a police force struggling to shed an incessant drug problem. Duncan, chief of police, is idealistic and visionary, a dream to the townspeople but a nightmare for criminals. The drug trade is ruled by two drug lords, one of whom—a master of manipulation named Hecate—has connections with the highest in power, and plans to use them to get his way.

Hecate’s plot hinges on steadily, insidiously manipulating Inspector Macbeth: the head of SWAT and a man already susceptible to violent and paranoid tendencies. What follows is an unputdownable story of love and guilt, political ambition, and greed for more, exploring the darkest corners of human nature, and the aspirations of the criminal mind.

I was so looking forward to Jo Nesbo newest book. This book is horrible gave up after 3 hours, really couldn't get into it. Sorry Mr. Nesbo this is a terrible book.

I'm barley into my very first book. I always knew this was better than leaving my books on buses when I travel my city. I always wondered "What's in those people's ears?" when everyone on my trolley is plugged in and listening. And I can't say how many cheap reading glasses I've left be)hind. SO MUCH MORE CONVENIENT! About my first book, Macbeth, the speaker sounds solid, as oak. Authoritative fellow, like a bookworm librarian (I'd love that life, really. I should have joined Audiobooks.com 10 years ago!

Stunning! Great as a stand-alone, but even better if you have read the Bard’s original. Captures the plot with a modern feel, captures the soggy feel of Scotland and its post-industrial malaise, a heady “brew” that you can’t put down.
