Summary
In the 1960s, a trio of rebellious young gangsters, the Gallo boys, sought to overthrow the reigning New York Mafia Dons and create a dynasty for themselves-an underworld revolution that was fueled by their leader's immersion into the era's countercultural revolution. The Gallo boys are steeped in legend, from being the subject of a Bob Dylan ballad to serving as inspiration for The Godfather trilogy to appearing in photo spreads in Life. Yet never before has their complete story been told. Now, “with the authority, swagger, and flavor of a true insider” (ForeWord magazine) Tom Folsom finally gives Red Hook, Brooklyn's most notorious figures their due and captures the radical spirit of 1960s New York City.

Joe Gallo ... an artist trapped in a mobsters body ... haha ... if that makes any sense ...great entertaining read ... why someone will chose to live like this is beyond me still ... yet I understand and even relate to the duality of ones character ...we seldom are just one thing ... we are many .

Growing up in the 1940’s our newspaper covered the gangs in New York, this story takes me back when that was a young mans goal, till you grow up and know better.

This was a story I had never really heard about until now. It was a fascinating story about how a group of brothers rose to ranks in the crime families of 1960s and 70's Red Hook neighborhood. The story really draws you in.

Fast paced and well written. However the time jumps during chapters got a bit confusing at some points. Overall a good listen.
