Unabridged Audiobook
Great book, really gets you into some deep thinking and understanding, highly highly recommend
interesting, a little 'rushed to finish' feeling
Wow that was a tough but interesting book to read. It’s also so sad that even in the days when people clearly needed some mental health support we just didn’t have the knowledge and technology to diagnose and treat correctly. And of course, the white men liked to call all women crazy and treat them with tranquilizers and lobotomies! It makes you sad for all of the women whose families just trusted these idiot “doctors” and all the lives that were ruined by them.
In my book club today we opened with saying there needs to be a much stronger trigger warning for this book. Great to have such themes of women, roles, gender differences, life goals, rural vs urban lifestyles, what neighbors think, loss and mental health treated. But like some other books we have read this year, long preamble then felt the last part was rushed. It the themes not treated in balance. I like the writing style even though I ended up listening to the book. I’m glad I did as Susan did a great job bringing it to life and did an excellent job narrating as Lulu.
