Summary
Ambrose Young was beautiful. He was tall and muscular, with hair that touched his shoulders and eyes that burned right through you. The kind of beautiful that graced the covers of romance novels, and Fern Taylor would know. She'd been reading them since she was thirteen. But maybe because he was so beautiful he was never someone Fern thought she could have . . . until he wasn't beautiful anymore. Making Faces is the story of a small town where five young men go off to war, and only one comes back. It is the story of loss. Collective loss, individual loss, loss of beauty, loss of life, loss of identity. It is the tale of one girl's love for a broken boy and a wounded warrior's love for an unremarkable girl. This is a story of friendship that overcomes heartache, heroism that defies the common definitions, and a modern tale of Beauty and the Beast, where we discover that there is a little beauty and a little beast in all of us.

Another Amy Harmon book I loved. I don’t think another author has brought out such intense emotion. I finished it last night as I could not stop listening. I had to know how it ended. I wish I could be more articulate. I found myself totally invested in their lives and caring deeply about them. Her characters have such a profound ability to touch the heart. I was reminded of the all encompassing love and friendships of my youth. I cried buckets. Now on to another Amy Harmon book.

This is my cousin and I was surprised how well she writes. I didn't truly appreciate her talent. This book is very deep and touching. The characters are relate-able and the reader is able to connect with them. It has a very haunting feel to it; it makes it even more intriguing.

This novel is hauntingly beautiful. It's so scattered and yet so focused at the same time, it envelops you into the characters feelings as if outside of this book, nothing matters. One of my new favorite books of all time.

Totally enjoyed listening to this book. The characters come to life in this beautiful story of love and loss and hope. Didn't want the book to end.
