London, on a night of choking fog. Alexander Kinloch, blind and down on his luck, is feeling his way along the Embankment when a chance collision draws him into a murder he cannot see, and into the lives of people who are very glad that he is blind.

First published in 1928, The Man in the Dark is a gripping Golden Age mystery by J. A. Ferguson, told in four parts by different voices: Kinloch's own strange adventure, the narrative of Godfrey Chance, an ambitious young journalist chasing the story of the year, and the statement of a doctor at the heart of the case. As Scotland Yard hunts for a suspect in the murder of Ponsonby Paget, one of the most popular men in England, the shrewd Scottish investigator Francis McNab begins to piece together the truth.

Part detective story, part thriller, this classic novel moves from the fog-bound streets of London to the quiet countryside of Kent and Sussex. This edition is complete and unabridged.
