Summary
There are certain names which are familiar, as names, to all mankind; and every person who seeks for any degree of mental cultivation, feels desirous of informing himself of the leading outlines of their history, that he may know, in brief, what it was in their characters or their doings which has given them so widely-extended a fame. Consequently, great historical names alone are selected; and it has been the writer's aim to present the prominent and leading traits in their characters, and all the important events in their lives, in a bold and free manner, and yet in the plain and simple language which is so obviously required in works which aim at permanent and practical usefulness. This volume is dedicated to Mary Queen of Scots. (Summary from the preface of the book)

A great story but sadly for me spoiled by poor pronunciation and in one chapter poor sound.

Thought the book was informative and a good concise overview of Queen Mary. I did feel that the author would sometime give too detailed a description, and it would slow the progress of the story. With regard to the Narrators, most of the 12 (one for each chapter) were easy to understand and did a good job of pronouncing people and place names. However, St least 2 of the Narrators did mispronunciations and this distracted from the content.

Gen joyed the story -- learned more about Mary. Clear explanations. Kept my attention. They changed up the narrator with each chapter. Some were difficult to hear or understand.

I learned a lot about the history of Scotland and who this queen really was.

At last I last I now know the story. I loved it although it's a sad one. The plots and intrigue at Court were never ending. I would recommend this book to any history inclined person. The story was well read so it never got boring.

The information was very good, but the writing, a bit tedious. Also, it's a LibriVox recording, which allows the public to narrate books. When you've been listening to professional readers, this is certainly a stark contrast!! Also, nobody seemed to have edited the reading of it as the sound levels varied chapter to chapter! Other than all of that, the information was certainly worth the listen.

Didn’t realize until listening now to the story how dramatic Mary’s life was. She could have benefited from having a parent around to guide her more. So stressful not knowing who you can trust.
