A DUAL NARRATION

A family funeral is upended by a missing diamond ring and the unexpected return of an old love in this big-hearted, messy novel about secrets and second chances

When Susie Walsh’s beloved grandmother Mimi passes away, her family gathers at Mimi’s New England beach house to say goodbye and to hear the reading of the will. But little does the family know that Mimi’s ten-carat Cartier ring isn’t in the safety deposit box where it’s supposed to be. The only person who knows its whereabouts is Susie’s younger brother, Ben—and the secrets he’s been keeping threaten to unravel everything.

Ben convinces Susie to help him track down the ring, which he says is with his ex-girlfriend Frances. Their search pulls Ben back into a relationship he left behind years ago and forces him to confront the heartbreak he caused, the betrayals he’s tried to forget, and a love that never truly let go. But Frances has her own secrets, and Ben's sudden reappearance threatens the new life she has carefully built.

With Mimi’s funeral fast approaching, Ben and Frances must face their shared past and decide if the truth is best left buried, or if some things are worth risking it all for. Set against a sun-drenched New England summer and in the tense days leading up to Mimi’s funeral, Maybe We Meant It is an unforgettable story of first loves, second chances, and the enduring power of forgiveness.
