Unabridged Audiobook
A bit of a slow start but once the story really got going, I couldn't stop listening. Oddly strange yet addicting. Good ending. 5 star narration as well!
This is my first book by this author, and I really enjoyed it, well written.
Book was excellent.
I really, really liked this one. Very well written. So creepy!!
Jordan Peele’s “Run” meets “The Haunting of Hill House.” I really liked it. I couldn’t stop until I had finished the story! Very creepy. A good summer ghost story.
I thought I would not like the main character from her intro but I really enjoyed having her as a lens for this story. The descriptions are beautifully done and I felt driven to finish the story quickly as the plot progressed. Very enjoyable.
I really liked the beginning of this book and then I felt like it just followed the cliche horror story of a house being possessed.
Seriously underrated! Loved this book. Almost a 5 star but it felt like a big build up and a little bit of a rushed ending.
I really enjoyed this book. I had been wanting to read it for some time. The descriptions were so vivid. At times, I grimaced, but I hoped no one saw because I listened to this book while in the gym.
Soooo slow. Narrator’s English accent really got on my nerves. Goat halfway through and deleted.
This is the second book I listen from the author and I loved it. I love her style of writing. I’m definitely going to listen to more of her books. The narrator was great as well.
It was amazing beautifully written and read! I have so many great things to say about this book, one of my new favorites and definitely will recommend!
I really liked it! I thought it was suspenseful and entertaining. I'll try her other books now.
Wow what a interesting story with a big plot twist the narrator was awesome too. I felt myself being transported into the horror.
I loved this book so much! The characters, the story, the reader all kept me hooked
this book is wonderful and the narration perfect.
This is one of the worst books I’ve ever tried to listen to. I can’t believe the other good reviews at all. So boring, narration slow (even sped it up). Started to get to what i thought was an exciting part and things would improve and it just went so sideways I Can’t finish it, it is so bad.
I really want to finish this book but the narrator’s style is distracting. She’s simultaneously acting too much and too little. I find myself not wanting to press play. Wish I’d just bought the physical book.
how in the world would anyone rate this book 5 stars?? The narration is awful! Absolutely zero deflection, monotone and just plain BAD. The story?? Blah. So disappointed
I like the slow start, but when it started picking up I really enjoyed the book.
Definitely not horror but it was suspenseful. Like others said, it was a bit of a slow start but once the plot unfolded it was great. Finished listening in 3 days. The narrator Frankie Corzo was great, I’d listened to other recordings of hers and loved them, she was the real reason I picked this book.
I did not enjoy this book. For all it’s hype I expected more.
The story drags a little.
Liked it. Good imagery.
Book did not live up to the reviews. Disappointed where the story led.
The book got better ma better.
Hard to get into. Slow start.
Listened with my sister-in-law on a road trip. Spent the entirety of the trip talking about how amazing this book was and could not wait for the ride back home to finish it. We both had zero idea where the book was taking us and that made it all the more fun.
Saddly I was so disappointed by this book. I found it so incredible boring, and the narrators voice annoyed the hell out of me. But this was my first audiobook ever, so could be that audiobooks just aren’t my thing.
This book started off keeping my interest but the story line became almost comical half way through. Ridiculous waste of time.
Lost interest and not a very good ending. Pretty predictable.
I enjoyed this book until it veered off into complete fantasy. Then it just became silly. Perhaps it was an attempt at magic realism but it failed. I thought the narrator was terrible-sing song voice that didn’t reflect the action of the book. I was very irritated by her voice.
Slow reading!
I bought this book because it was compared to Rebecca by Daphne Du Maurier. It is nothing like it. I kept listening hoping it would get better and it just got weirder. Not for me.
About: Noemi's father gets a very disturbing letter from her cousin, Catalina. Catalina's husband agrees to let Noemi come and see Catalina for herself so they can assess the situation. Noemi is somewhat troubled about her life being temporarily disturbed, but she is looking forward to seeing her cousin. When she arrives at her the home that Catalina is staying, she finds more disturbing things then she can ever wrap her mind around. Plot: I really enjoyed this book so much. At first, I was like this is a horror? I'm not seeing it at all. Maybe a bit of a paranormal. Then, it hit. Like a sledgehammer. In my opinion, that's the best way to have a horror. Nobody expects it coming until it's too late. I also feel like this could be made into a sequel if the author was up to it. Characters: Noemi is this very strong character. She knows what she wants. She knows how to carry herself. She's intelligent and proud. I wish I had seen more of Catalina. She's more referenced and described than anything. The other characters definitely put some color into the book. Especially the people that lived in High Place. Narration: I both listened and read this book. This book was narrated by Franki Corzo. She gave such an authentic feel to the Spanish heritage referenced in this book. It was wonderful. She also has a nice voice that I didn't mind hearing at all. I would definitely hear other books narrated by her. Suggestions: Sequel, please! Recommend: I definitely recommend!
