Today we will be visiting the Pyramid of the Sun - the third tallest pyramid in the world, after Giza in Egypt and the Pyramid of Cholula, which is also in Mexico. The main road through the ancient city of Teotihuacan is the Boulevard of the Dead. The Pyramid of the Sun is to the east. It is in excellent condition for its age, and we will climb the pyramid to enjoy the view of the surrounding ruins from the summit. From here we can imagine the scale of construction and the enormous scope of the once prosperous empire...
Academics continue to ask many questions about the purposes of the buildings in Teotihuacan. For years, archaeologists have searched for the tombs of Aztec rulers from the city's most prosperous period between 100 and 700 AD, but so far have found no definite trace of such. However, one thing they agree on is that the Great Goddess was worshiped in Teotihuacan.
