Summary:

I am Princess Meredith, heir to a throne of fairie. My day job, once upon a time, was as a private detective in Los Angeles. Unfortunately, princess has now become a full-time occupation. My aunt, Queen Andais, will have it no other way. And so I am virtually a prisoner in fairie - trapped here with some of the realm's most beautiful men to serve as my bodyguards...and my lovers. For I am compelled to conceive a child: an heir to succeed me on the throne. Yet after months of amazing sex with my consorts, there is still no baby. And no baby means no throne. The only certainty is death at the hands of my cousin Cel, or his followers, if I fail to conceive. Now Mistral, Queen Andais's new captain of the guard, has come to my bed - defying her and risking her terrible wrath in doing so. But even she will hesitate to punish him in jealous rage, because our joining has reawakened old magic, mystical power so ancient that no one stands against it and survives. Not even my strongest and most favored: my Darkness and my Killing Frost. Not even Mistral himself, my Storm Lord. But because Mistral has helped to bring this magic forth, he may live another day. If I can reclaim control of the fey power that once was, there may be hope for me and my reign in fairie. I might yet quell the dark schemes and subterfuges surrounding me. Though shadows of obsession and conspiracy gather, I may survive.

Laurell K Hamilton has a lot of imagination and that's what the book is all about. The story plot takes place in a kingdom with queens, princesses and the court. Of course ,reality is mixed in and deliveries an amazing story with intrigues and plots you never saw coming. A very good read !

Hard to follow, wierd, and not enjoyable. I shut it off half way through.

The best story in the series yet! Can't wait for the next one. I could almost see Fairy and feel it's magic. Great narration!

I tried to get through this, after recently listening to another Merry Gentry novel- I just couldn't. It gets very tiresome...a lot of sex and not much substance. This disapointed me because I love the Anita Blake series.

I love Laurell K. Hamilton's stories, but wow, this one sucked. I finished it in 3 days, and when it was over, I couldn't tell you of anything that signiciant that I remember. Their was no storyline whatsoever. I mean NONE. I've never had that with a book. It just prattled on with no clear direction or purpose. The book was mainly all about the metaphysical sex. That was it. Scene after scene of metaphysical sex. Enough already. How about some plot and some storyline. That's what I love about Hamilton's stories, is her ability to write such a creative story that no authoer has ever done, sprinkled in with metaphysical sex. This was like reading Penthouse letters. I was very disappointed in this book, and do not recommend it to anyone.

I was disappointed by the lack of story line and overabundance of sex scenes. I loved earlier Laurell K. Hamilton books. But the most recent offerings, most especially this one, have sacrificed the smart, in-depth characterizations and interactions in order to focus on metaphysical sex. Frankly, the book was boring.
