The Monster of Lake Lametrie by Wardon Allan Curtis is a pioneering work of early science fiction, cryptozoology, and Gothic horror. Set in a remote, prehistoric volcanic basin high in the mountains of Wyoming, the story unfolds through the increasingly unsettling diary entries of Dr. James McLennegan. Accompanied by his ailing friend, Edward Framingham, the scientist seeks to uncover the truth behind a mysterious lake rumored to harbor antediluvian life. When a violent seismic disruption unearths a living, 28-foot Elasmosaurus, a shocking and desperate medical experiment boundaries the limits of human intellect and animal savagery. Blending Victorian scientific curiosity with terrifying existential dread, this classic remains a masterfully bizarre milestone of early speculative fiction.
Narrated by horror author Jonathan Dunne.
