Summary:

At the one-year anniversary of his death, legendary musician Prince's first wife shares a uniquely intimate, candid, and revelatory look inside the personal and professional life of one of the world's most beloved icons.

In The Most Beautiful, a title inspired by the hit song Prince wrote about their legendary love story, Mayte Garcia for the first time shares the deeply personal story of their relationship and offers a singular perspective on the music icon and their world together: from their unconventional meeting backstage at a concert (and the long-distance romance that followed), to their fairy-tale wedding (and their groundbreaking artistic partnership), to the devastating losses that ultimately dissolved their romantic relationship for good. Throughout it all, they shared a bond more intimate than any other in Prince's life. No one else can tell this story or can provide a deeper, more nuanced portrait of Prince--both the famously private man and the pioneering, beloved artist--than Mayte, his partner during some of the most pivotal personal and professional years of his career. The Most Beautiful is a book that will be returned to for decades, as Prince's music lives on with generations to come.

Simply beautiful, Mayte. This is done in a respectful loving way, I'm truly grateful she pushed back the veil.

It's not just about her life with Prince. She worked hard and had her own when she met him. Some things I think should have been left out of the book. And the really hard parts...when you have to hit PAUSE because you're crying so hard you can't hear... narrative was very impressive. I don't think I could have done it.

OMG. Such a wonderful read. I laughed and cried so many emotions. I followed their life through MTV and entertainment news back in the day. To hear Mayte tell her journey in her own words was beautiful. Even if your not a Prince fan, this is a awesome book that takes you full circle in her life.

Beautifully heart-wrenching. I was always curious about Mayte's story and this book answered most of my questions. I applauded and marveled at Mayte's early success. I fell in love with her love affair with Prince, felt empathy for their pain when they lost their babies and rooted for them to come through the rough times unscathed prior to the divorce. At the end I ached for Mayte and felt her deep losses through my own past heartaches. I enjoyed Hollywood Exes but I know "reality tv" is fake so It was nice to get the actual backstory on how Gia and Mayte were really brought together. I came away admiring Mayte for surviving such a journey. She's got her mama's strength for sure. I'm sure she'll pass that strength onto Gia. I genuinely hope that she can move on now and perhaps find love again eventually. She loved Prince unconditionally. I'm not sure if he was worthy of her love (IMO) but ultimately that's not for me to judge. The story is told with grace and dignity. Mayte is brutality honest but there is no malicious intent to maim anyone. She expresses exactly what needs to be conveyed while maintaining a certain level of mystery. The book isn't a scandalous tell-all as most haters would have you believe. It's simply her story of love, despair and rebirth. Actually, hearing the pain and anguish in Mayte's voice as she choked back tears during several passages was heartbreaking. Her love, hurt, despair, anger and joy are tangible. Her voice really made the words leap off the page in a way that's different than if you're just reading it.
