Unabridged Audiobook
I loved this cosy crime novel. I liked the interaction between Mouse the dog and Steph the main character. The storyline includes lots of gardening content which is interesting in itself. The thread of Stephs ex husband weaves through all of the novels, adding some depth. The story characters are well drawn and add some humour. A light and enjoyable listen.
Solid cozy mystery. The first book in this series had so many little twists that I got dizzy and came close to spewing green soup. I listened to it on Spotify. I stuck with the series because there was promise in the character construction and development. The dog Mouse, is especially fun. I also enjoy the main characters interactions with her father. The plot construction has calmed down to quirky, which is more sort of amusing than annoying. Even in the first book, the conclusions make sense and there are no surprise characters introduced in the last third of the book. The narrator nicely dissolves from consciousness and you can immerse yourself in the characters, except for book two where she mispronounces La Jolla through the whole book. La Jolla is a homophone for La Joya, which means the jewel. I am a native San Diegan. Many people who are not Spanish speakers or who have not seen La Jolla in text believe that La Jolla was named for the spectacular view from mount Soledad and the Muirlands. It isn’t. It’s the Spanish translation of the Kumeyaay word for the area, which translates as “The Caves”. It drove me nuts every time the narrator pronounced La Jolla with a hard J. It should be pronounced La Hoya. The third book has a cohesive plot, with just a bit of quirkiness, two well developed and likable protagonists and a fun cast of characters overall. Rosie Sandler is settling down into being a respectably talented cozy mystery author.
