A great written record of what life was like. Unfortunately the changing of narrators took away from the book itself and was a real distraction. The quality of some of the recordings were low and some of the narrators were not at all engaging. A book best read in another way.

The content is tough to hear at times but the stories are essential. As a white person I appreciate the opportunity to learn and deepen my ability to show empathy. I am an ally. I do feel that some of the narrators, through no fault of their own, distracted from the story. If possible using the same narrator throughout would lend to a much smoother listening experience.

Great read that gives valuable insight to what life was like for a young slave boy. Really understood how he felt when his mom and dad could not protect hi

The content while brutal at times is eye opening. I would prefer to have a single narrator, not many. Changing narrators is jarring. One of the narrators dialect made it difficult to understand while the quality of the recordings provided by other narrators was simply terrible. All of this makes great content difficult to understand and process.

This was a really excellent book. Some of the scenes were brutal but it's important for white people to know the depths of the suffering of the slaves who helped to build the wealth and comfort of our country! One of the readers had a very soft voice, but it was still ok, and all of them were very careful with their reading. I thoroughly enjoyed this book!

If I’m reading a book about slavery I don’t expect the narrator to sound like the slave owner. Disappointed.
