Unabridged Audiobook
The opening chapters had promise. The premise drew me in, and I expected the story to build from there. Instead, it stalled. Too much of the book is spent on the characters' preteen and adolescent years. A few formative scenes would have established who these people are, but the narrative lingers in childhood well past the point of usefulness. By the time the characters reach adulthood, where I suspect the real story lives, my interest had already faded. The structure doesn't help. The book feels disjointed, jumping between moments without enough connective tissue to make the shifts feel purposeful. Rather than building momentum, each section seemed to restart the story. The biggest problem is the narrator's voice. It is flat and lacks the texture or insight that could have carried the slower stretches. A compelling narrator can make even an unhurried coming-of-age story engaging, but here the voice kept me at a distance from events that should have mattered.

The story had potential but narrarator seemed rushed and the flat voice and rushed manner made me feel in a hurry to finish. Story was not as well edited as authors other books IMO. Still finished it and will continue to listen to other authors books with different narrarator
