Unabridged Audiobook
The Narrator is skilled at performing mens voices in a way that differentiates characters but doesn't sound forced, which is impressive. However, she repetedly falls back on tired "sorority girl" tropes when voicing female characters, including the complex protagonist. Her portratal of these women almost entirely relies whiny, pouty, bitchy, bratty, saccharine or "sexy baby" phrasing and delivery. Though at times the shallow valley girl voice feels appropriate, overall it is an unoriginal, easy choice that can be annoying to listen to and does nothing to add dimention to characters. This isn't pulitzer literature or anything, but it is a fun and grisly little page-turner. The mystery is intriguing and the danger feels real, with plenty of red herrings to throw us off. i red the book 1st, then listened to it with a couple of friends on a long drive. Chlöe is a much more intriguing psychopath in the book, unfortunately the narrator portrays her more like a selfish mean-girl, which affects the story somewhat. You be the judge.
Didn’t want to finish, way too long and drawn out
