Summary
The most gorgeously theatrical of all Dickens’ novels, Nicholas Nickleby follows the delightful adventures of a hearty young hero in nineteenth-century England. Nicholas, a gentleman’s son fallen upon hard times, must set out to make his way in the world. His journey is accompanied by some of the most swaggering scoundrels and unforgettable eccentrics in Dickens’ pantheon.

From the dungeon-like Yorkshire boys’ boarding school run by the cruel Wackford Squeers to the high-spirited stage of Vincent Crummles’ extraordinary acting troupe, Nicholas Nickleby is a triumph of the imagination, bursting with color, humor, and poignant social commentary.

An exciting and moving adventure, told with eloquence, wit, and humour. In the some cases, the plot twists, wth its many coincidences, seemed to me to be a bit of a stretch. But I loved the characters, and for their sake, was willing to "accept" everything that happened as "real." The narration was superb. After some confusion as to who the narrator was, I discovered that Simon Vance and Robert Whitfield are the same person. By either name, this narrator is a gifted vocal actor!

Initially I didn’t like the narrator. Didn’t seem to have a British accent. Soon changed my opinion. Excellent narration, impeccable transition from one character to the next and dialogue between characters. Enjoying my revisit of the classics.
