From the #1 New York Times bestselling author of Then She Was Gone comes “her best thriller yet” (Harlan Coben, New York Times bestselling author) about a young couple’s disappearance on a gorgeous summer night, and the mother who will never give up trying to find them.

On a beautiful summer night in a charming English suburb, a young woman and her boyfriend disappear after partying at the massive country estate of a new college friend.

One year later, a writer moves into a cottage on the edge of the woods that border the same estate. Known locally as the Dark Place, the dense forest is the writer’s favorite place for long walks and it’s on one such walk that she stumbles upon a mysterious note that simply reads, “DIG HERE.”

Could this be a clue towards what has happened to the missing young couple? And what exactly is buried in this haunted ground?

“Utterly gripping with richly drawn, hugely compelling characters, this is a first-class thriller with heart” (Lucy Foley, New York Times bestselling author) that will keep you on the edge of your seat.

I would actually give it a 3.5 if I could. It is better than average, but at times a little convoluted. Good writing and narration.

Great 'read' while driving across country, the miles just flew. Couldn't wait for the next day to hear more. The narrator is spectacular!

So brilliantly written! I loved it. It was initially a little bit hard with the back-and-forth in time, but as I kept listening and got to know the characters more, then it just started flowing and was no problem. It kept you wondering and guessing what would happen next, only to be surprised. The ending was a jaw dropping. The narrator was great!

Didn’t always know what was going to be the ending but I did make a very close guess. Terrifying situation to be in.

It was pretty good. Was not as predictable as some stories, which was nice. Narration was great. I agree with someone that said a little better than average, and I would say a solid 3.5. I love Lisa Jewell, my favorite so far has been Ralhph's Party, even though it was not a scary story, it was great. I also liked None of this is True.

I've long been a fan of Lisa Jewell and this is definitely my favorite so far. A really interesting, complex plot with a lot of twists and turns, and very relatable characters who have stayed with me. It's one of those books that have me lingering in the car after I've parked, or taking a longer walk so I can keep listening. I was so eager to get to the end to see how it turned out, but then I felt bereft at having no more of this tale to rivet my attention. Lovely narrator, too.

I was entranced by this book. The characters, even the tragic and manipulative—are hard not to love. It kept my interest with twists and thrills. And the ending was a rewarding surprise. The narrator has a beautiful voice that fit the characters well.

The book overall was a good story, but the jumping back and forth between timelines is okay but you can get lost with the unnecessary stuff in between.

AMAZING book and narrator. Really enjoyed every second of it and loved the ending. Many little twists. Even got emotional towards the end. It’ll be hard to find a new book to listen to now after such a great one.

Nicely done, with an interesting plot twist at the end. Joanne Frogett rendered the voices with nuance and character- a good yarn!

This has been one of my favorite books. The best thing about this book had nothing to do with the writing, suspense, and detail but the NARRATION! One of the best narration jobs I’ve heard. I enjoyed just as much as I did Tom Hanks narration of the Dutch Girl. She narrated the characters along with the writers description I could visualize them so well and felt as if I was actually watching a movie. I did have to rewind when I first started, to see who was the character at the time, because it does go back and forth - wasn’t ready for that. The character detail, suspense, all around this was a very well written book. Looking forward to more from this author.
