Summary:

Struggling to care for her sick father and raise her teenage children alone, a divorced mother spends the weekend at a North Carolina inn, only to meet a former surgeon running from his past.
Adrienne Willis is 45 and has been divorced for three years, abandoned by her husband for a younger woman. The trials of raising her teenage children and caring for her sick father have worn her down, but at the request of a friend and in hopes of respite, she's gone to the coastal village of Rodanthe in North Carolina to tend the local inn for the weekend. With a major storm brewing, the time away doesn't look promising...until a guest named Paul Flanner arrives.
At 54, Paul is a successful surgeon, but in the previous six months his life has unraveled into something he doesn't recognize. Estranged from his son and recently divorced, he's sold his practice and his home and has journeyed to this isolated town in hopes of closing a painful chapter in his past. Adrienne and Paul come together as the storm brews over Rodanthe, but what begins between them over the weekend will resonate throughout the rest of their lives, intertwining past and future, love and loss.

I really liked this story, kept me wanting to come back to it. Made me a little sad at the end I wish it ended differently but that is what made the story so good.

I'm a huge Nicholas Sparks fan and I read the book several years ago and then listened to this audio book. When I first read the book, I got hung up on the practicality of 2 people falling in love in a ridiculously short time, and really disliked the story line. When I listened to the audio book, I just listened to the underlying longing and feelings that the characters experienced and found that I enjoyed the story much more.

I just don't think I'm a big Sparks fan. For what this is, it's good, it's just not my cup of tea. If you are a fan of Nicholas Sparks I'm pretty sure you will enjoy this.

I found this to be predictable, corny and unbelievable.

As always, this was another enjoyable Sparks story. I love the coastal Carolina setting.

Jo Beth Williams did a passable job with the Southern accent but the story seemed to just drag along. Actually, there wasn't really much of a story there, now that I think about it. I enjoy romance novels but this one was just a little too sappy and unrealistic. After being with a man what...three days?... you fall in love with him for the rest of your life even though you never saw him again?? I was kind of relieved when it was over and listened to all of it thinking there would be some big reveal or something. There wasn't.

Just really not one of my favorite Sparks' novels. These characters appear to fall in love after one weekend, and I completely question the depth of those feelings. I'm sure I should just read it for the entertainment value; however, I just have a hard time getting past that.

This book wasn't good nor bad; it was just okay. Sorta dragged on.

I really liked this book. Like always it's a sappy love story with a pretty ending. Worth listening to.

Nicholas Sparks can't write a bad book, and this is no exception. I had a lot of respect for the character in this book and thought she had a lot of depth. The story was slightly sad as is life sometimes and that brought a lot of truth to it. Very good read. Well done.

Typical Nicholas Sparks book. I enjoyed the story but didn't care at all for the reader.

  • Lee Werley

It is sappy but I like that every now and then. It was typical of Sparks but still a good story. His books are not deep but easy to listen to or to read. Of the 5 or so books by Nicholas SParks this one ranks in the lower half but I did enjoy it very much.

This book was not awful, but it wasnt great either. It is VERY sappy. You really have to just let yourself get cought up in the story and not let common sense get the best of you while listening to this book. But if you really enjoy love stories then you will enjoy this book.

Plot is just not interesting. Too much "magic." Too simple, too easy. Both individuals would have to be suckers to fall for each other like that under the circumstances. Insulting to the intelligence of common, ordinary decent people. Sowwies. That's what I really think.

Just like all his others....EXCELLENT!!! It was great right to the last words that were spoken. I had read this book and it was even better on audio!!! I loved it!!

If you are a "sap" for "sappy" love stories, this is the book for you. It's good for listening to in the car during your commute as you can pay attention to the drive and not miss much.

This is a typical Sparks romance. If you like love stories, you will love Nicholas Sparks. I've given this 4 stars on the basis of the other books by HIM. I am not comparing them to anyone else's works. On the whole, he is the best writer of this genre that I've encountered. You won't be disappointed in any of his books.
