Summary
INSTANT NEW YORK TIMES BESTSELLER

From the #1 New York Times bestselling author known for her “superb pacing, twisted characters, and captivating prose” (BuzzFeed), Lisa Jewell returns with a scintillating new psychological thriller about a woman who finds herself the subject of her own popular true crime podcast.

Celebrating her forty-fifth birthday at her local pub, popular podcaster Alix Summer crosses paths with an unassuming woman called Josie Fair. Josie, it turns out, is also celebrating her forty-fifth birthday. They are, in fact, birthday twins.

A few days later, Alix and Josie bump into each other again, this time outside Alix’s children’s school. Josie has been listening to Alix’s podcasts and thinks she might be an interesting subject for her series. She is, she tells Alix, on the cusp of great changes in her life.

Josie’s life appears to be strange and complicated, and although Alix finds her unsettling, she can’t quite resist the temptation to keep making the podcast. Slowly she starts to realize that Josie has been hiding some very dark secrets, and before she knows it, Josie has inveigled her way into Alix’s life—and into her home.

But, as quickly as she arrived, Josie disappears. Only then does Alix discover that Josie has left a terrible and terrifying legacy in her wake, and that Alix has become the subject of her own true crime podcast, with her life and her family’s lives under mortal threat.

Who is Josie Fair? And what has she done?

I now understand how families would gather around the radio in the 1940s and 50s to listen to performed stories. None Of This Is True and it’s narrators kept me glued to the “radio” throughout. Well developed characters and a story that unfolds one Petal at a time. Loved it!

I gave this book “5” stars because of the physiological twisted personalities of the characters. It happens to us, we all meet people by chance…but is that person so demented that they would actually plot a story to confuse the truth from you and themselves? I want to say so much more about how this book leaves you guessing, leaves you thinking who in the heck was ever telling the truth? But that would be difficult to do without having to tell you the whole story. Note: For all you audiobook listeners this book has various narrators that bring distinct accents and voices to each character while mixing book and podcast listening together. Brilliant idea LJ!!

Great story. I really liked the multiple voices and the way the story unfolds. The "interview" process in the book is very well done as an audiobook. I will listen to other books by this author.

This book was SO slow. I was invested in the story line but the story drags on and it feels like chapter after chapter nothing is really revealed. The biggest plot twist was at the very end, and every other twist is predictable. I was waiting for something more.

This was such an incredible audio read that I have read yet. Yeah, it was a bit twisted and dark, but that’s the kind of story that one you can’t walk away u til you finish it. The narrating, with the different narrators, was so good. I absolutely loved this book. It is my first Lisa Jewell book, I am now onto “then she was gone”, which is really good but idk how it can compare to this one. I have already told two friends about this book as a must read. At the end, it left me a little confused and wondering….but maybe that’s what she intended, maybe the story is going to continue.

Wonderfully twisted story. Kept me entertained and focused on the story, I want to keep listening! Good character build up and narration. The concept was very “current” also. Creepy! Already looking for other books by this author.

This was probably the best actual Audiobook I have ever listened to. I loved the format, the different voices used, and the way it was compiled. The story was really interesting, kept you engaged and guessing, and in my opinion was not obvious like many other books. I liked it so much that I encouraged some other friends to also listen to it. I highly recommend this for a fun, suspenseful and engaging audiobook.

This book was slow for so long but there was a lot story to lay out. The last third, I’d say, was really interesting and left me thinking about the conclusion. I have never listened to one of her books before and I would try another.

Well, I’m a Lisa Jewel fan, so I was expecting twisted and this book didn’t disappoint. I’ve read online reviews about the book having too much ambiguity at the end, but I think that’s what I love so much about Jewell’s writing…it’s for the reader with a wild imagination! I’ve marinated on this book for days creating new scenarios each time. LOVED the different narrators, too. Great read!!

If you want a book that you can stop listening to and won't be able to guess anything that is going on.... this book is for you! WOW!! Creepy, yet sad. Solid characters and the narration was one of the very best. I was hooked from the first paragraph. This is one of the best books I've had for a long while.

This is a real page-turner of a story with a solid plot, good character development and a great narrator. I have read most of Lisa Jewel's books and have enjoyed them all. One caviat, this is a truly good thriller but I found it almost disturbingly dark - definitely more dark than any of Jewels' other works that I have read. I expect that she will write a follow-up to this book because although there is resolution at the end, there is a lot of room for a follow-up.

Lisa Jewell knows how to engage a reader. Suspenseful and unique with the podcast bits added in.

Profile Avatar

The narration was excellent. I felt like I was watching a suspenseful TV series. However, I usually find Lisa Jewell's books quick reading and fun & engaging characters from the start. This one dragged a little for me. Thats why I gave it a 4 star rating. The characters and plot were a bit boring. But I enjoyed the twists toward the end and the suspense that led up to it. I also thought that the podcast with interviews was a creative way to really engage the reader. A fun read!

I did not like the book. It was just not my type of read. The podcast story line with interviews during the read was just dumb!! Hopefully I don't come across this style again. Besides who would let a complete stranger dictate their home life? Just dumb.....

Excellent narration of a domestic suspense story that is far better than most. In case that sounds like I'm damning this novel with faint praise, I'll state it clearly: this was such a good story! It was original. It grabbed my attention right from the start the first time I tried listening to it, and it held my interest from start to finish. I have been reading Lisa Jewell since Ralph's Party was first published in the U.S., and this is my favorite of her suspense novels. I couldn't have enjoyed this audiobook any more than I did. Strongly recommended.
