The Occupant of the Room by Algernon Blackwood is a gripping masterclass in psychological suspense and atmospheric horror. Set in a secluded Alpine inn during a bleak, snowbound evening, the story follows a traveler who inadvertently takes a room that feels strangely oppressive and charged with an unseen presence. As the night unfolds, the cozy space shifts from a sanctuary into a psychological trap as the protagonist slowly pieces together the tragic fate of the room's previous guest. Rather than relying on physical monsters, Blackwood expertly constructs dread through the creeping weight of suicide, residual energy, and the thin veil between life and death. Narrated by horror author Jonathan Dunne.
