On A Pincushion is Mary De Morgan's first collection of fairy tales, first published in 1877. It was given a rave review by The Spectator when it was published, with passages that 'might rank with the best in the Arabian Nights or Grimm's Popular Stories'. This audiobook brings to life a fantastical cast of characters, from fairies to clockwork princesses to talking tigresses. Written for children but engaging enough to ensnare adults, this collection of fairy stories feels fresh despite its Victorian bones.
This audiobook also includes an introduction by the narrator which outlines Mary De Morgan's background and introduces each tale. The article from The Spectator that reviewed On A Pincushion upon its release (Two Volumes of Fairy Stories, 1976) is read at the end of the audiobook. These tracks bookend the collection, providing historical context unique to this edition.
