Unabridged Audiobook
This story is beautiful. Yes there’s miscommunication, but the author does a fantastic job writing it out where it’s not excessively annoying. I loved the connection between both characters. Towards the end it just gave everything and more. I was so satisfied and happy. I definitely recommend this story. Chris Chambers and Stephanie Rose did an amazing job narrating this story.
This was such a fun and swoony story. I absolutely adore Simon, he is sweet, charismatic and absolutely over the top. He is kind and caring and intelligent. He is the epitome of “do before you think” but you can’t help but adore him. Charlie is someone who has had her walls up so long, that taking them down is a struggle. Even though this story was filled with miscommunication, it was done in a way that wasn’t frustrating. I love how both sides had people in their corner talking to them and helping them see things from the other POV. This was full of family, friends, forgiving and second chances. The narration was great!
Performance: 5★ Story: 4.5★ Overall: 4.5★ After listening to The One I Love, I knew the next story I wanted to hear was Simon's. I was drawn by his laid back attitude. And the food tasting scene with Charlie stuck with me. Simon and Charlie's second chance at romance was both entertaining and frustrating to listen to. I'm not a fan of the misunderstanding trope to begin with, and Charlie's constant refusal to give Simon an answer, paired with Simon sounding a bit immature, wore me out. Thankfully, their amazing friends, who I already love, were there to knock some sense to both of them.
This is book 4 in the Rolling Hills Series. Each Story will follow one of the best friends from this series and their love interest. While these are interconnected and can be read as a standalone, I do suggest starting from the beginning. There is so much history with these friends that I believe you will enjoy this series more if you start with book 1. The One I Hate is Simon and Charlie's epic love story. I listened to this book on Audio. The Narrators are Chris Chambers and Stephanie Rose. Let me tell you....These two really took this entire series to the next level as they are the voice performers for each book. I enjoyed each and every one and they are all so different. Their voices changed throughout the series and I loved how they told the story for each character. And there are a lot of characters in this series. These performers were amazing in each book and this one especially. The emotions and comedic relief was amazing to hear and listen too. I found myself laughing out loud and shedding a tear or two throughout the story. This series is one of my absolute favorites and I credit Chelle and her amazing writing and these 2 performers for their amazing acting through the series. Oh Chelle.......I have been waiting for Simons story and you did not disappoint. His character is so funny and fun to read. I loved how both he a Charlie had such a huge backstory that brought so much depth to these characters and this story. The way Simon loved Charlie made my heart happy and this was the perfect way to end this series. Each story got better and better and you finished with a bang. Thank you for writing such amazing stories that make me feel.
Eeeekkkk Simon and his bug. I couldn't wait for Simons story. These Rolling Hills men have got me. Simon amd Charlie have a long roller coaster of history.
Audiobook review: narrated by Chris Chambers and Stephanie Rose 4.5 stars for story / 5 stars for performance One of the best second chance romances I’ve ever read/listened to! Top tier banter and so many laugh out loud moments. This friend group is so great and provides the best stories for an interconnected series. I am really enjoying these books so much!! The talent of the narrators had me locked in to this story for hours on end. Chris Chambers was amazing!! Especially during some of the more fun ramblings Simon does. I really enjoyed his performance. Stephanie Rose's voice was so beautiful and a joy to listen to. She did an amazing job voicing not only Charlie’s character buy all the others as well! Great job to both!!
Simon just Simon'd so hard in this book and I loved it! I was waiting on pins and needles for this one because I after watching Simon be his goofy, ridiculous self in all the previous books, I was so ready to watch this man unravel, and wow did he! Turns out Simon's been lovesick for years from the one who got away and he finally has her back. Watching him be the most romantic and do all the sweetest, most grandiose things was so much fun! And watching Charlie's walls crumble was almost just as fun. Simon and Charlie knew each other in college and through a miscommunication and the sudden death of Charlie's mom - unbeknownst to Simon - they are forced to part ways and not amicably. Charlie is swimming in grief and loss that hardens her to Simon and Simon is ghosted by the only girl he's ever truly had feelings for and he doesn't understand what went wrong. It needles him for the over decade they are apart, but when he spots her catering the wedding he is attending, everything about Charlie floods his brain and he will do just about anything to get her attention and find out where she went and what went wrong. Charlie feels the opposite and hates the man! She wants nothing to do with him and all his attempts to talk to her are struck down time and again. But as the saying goes, the line between love and hate is a thin one, and becomes even blurrier with one drunken night they spend together that leads to Charlie pregnant. Simon does everything in is power to help Charlie achieve her dreams and settle in Rolling Hills, but does so behind the scenes because he knows that if she were to find out that Simon was the one helping to make her dream of owning a diner a reality, she'd walk away and he loves her too much to let her stubborn pride get in the way of a good thing. Once they finally talk things out and see that everything that transpired as kids was a misunderstanding, that already blurry line between love and hate blurs away and their love blossoms as they discover Charlie's pregnancy and choose to start their family together. Simon is the absolute cutest baby daddy and does the most! But the secret behind the diner is hanging over their heads and Simon is nervous to tell Charlie the truth of the origins of her dream diner. When she finds out in the worst way, it causes a rift between them, but through Simon being Simon, everything gets sorted and Baby Bug makes her appearance and completes their family. I am sad that I am finished with my journey to Rolling Hills, but seeing all their HEA's come to fruition was so fun and I genuinely thought this series as a whole was sweet and full of laughs and surprises! Stephanie Rose and Chris Chambers were fantastic in this book and in this series. I love the continuity in narrators for the series but how they embody these completely different characters so well. It's a testament to their talent and I am excited to hear more of their work in the future!
I listened to the audio, and it was fine. I didn’t really connect with the MMC, and felt he was immature and very cocky at times. He had some good moments, and I felt he grew up a bit in the last part of the book. The storyline was interesting, and I liked the writing. It’s always fun to read the “reverse” grumpy x sunshine trope where the FMC is the grumpy one. I really enjoyed it, and how they reconnected after a miscommunication 15 years prior. It’s a good book, but the MMC lessened the rating for me.
