Summary
50-year-old governess Mary Wilcox has dealt with more than her fair share of rich families, and she does so with patience and grace.

But she’s not used to dealing with murder.

When Mary moves into the grand Ashford estate to assume her role as a governess to three children, she is met with the polite formality of the estate’s matriarch and the curiosity of three children.

Little does she know she is stepping foot into a nest of secrets and lies.

As Mary becomes more involved with the family, she begins to suspect foul play in the recent death of the family’s patriarch. Even as she battles her own past demons and struggles to separate past from present, she is forced to wonder—which of the family members should she be protecting?

And who should she be afraid of?

Well I have to say I really enjoyed it. The protagonist is a great character and I think it is a novel version of the whodunit genre. the characters were written really well and were very realistic in their reactions to events. I also liked the twists and turns in the plot. a very good read. highly recommended

A really good book. Some what sad, but a good read nonetheless. Really draws you in. The narrator does a great job. Even making different voices for the the individual characters. Really bringing them to life. There is a slight audio loop here and there but not to bothersome, to the point of not being able to enjoy the book. I do recommend it.

Not a bad read. Narration good

Not my favorite from this author but it was ok. A little crazy making with transitions from the main character’s present and past. Narrator kept repeating sentences, likely when she was correcting something, but then the sentence would be there twice. Fine story for a free reading.

This book held my attention from the very beginning, I enjoyed all the characters and the narration was also well done. I did get a sense that the story was a little rushed in comparison to book I have been listening to recently, however it did not take anything away from story, which I really enjoyed and would recommend reading.

Why did the narrator repeat random lines? I didn’t love that

Profile Avatar Janice A. May 2025

I enjoyed the story

Profile Avatar Evelyn D. Apr 2025

I enjoyed it. I thought the narrator was fine. Although, the story was a bit cheesy and unrealistic, it kept me interested.

Profile Avatar Anonymous Apr 2025

The story kept my attention. The narration was awful. It kept repeating, and the narrator using different voices for the characters was painful to listen to.

Profile Avatar Rhonda G. Apr 2025

Unbelievably bad recording, it was like a skipping record, full sentences repeated again and again. Story was not at all believable
