great ending to a wonderful series
This book is great. This historical romance has all the making of a classical one by the likes of Jane Austen, or the Bronte sisters, with of course more steamy scenes as Balogh is a contemporary writer.
The focus is on the relationship and characters getting to know and understand each other. It is a story of redemption and owning the mistakes we make as young people, forgiveness and understanding.
I love that the characters are mature, to me they felt like real people facing the hardship of life.
If you are looking for one of those historical romance written by an American novelist who only has a very stereotypical idea of what historical romance is, DO NOT READ THIS BOOK. You won't find any helpless rake or angsty twist in this book.
What you will find however, is a very well written, sweet story about tenderness, love and new beginnings. The characters have interesting arcs, they are compelling and not over dramatic.
You can feel that this book has been written by an English woman who actually KNOWS what she is talking about. The style and pace are spot on for a historical romance novel.
So sad that the series has come to an end. Have truly loved all the books. Very enjoyable.
A great finale to the series. I do like how the series came full circle and concluded where it all began… including the characters you have to tolerate (lol).
George’s story, like all the others, was heart wrenching and shocking. And so glad that he eventually admits to being in love.
