Summary
An Intimate Journey Complete with Original Music all from the Author

The #1 New York Times Bestseller

Includes six new songs by Jessica Simpson, available exclusively in the Open Book audiobook.

Performed by the author featuring her music throughout.

Jessica reveals for the first time her inner monologue and most intimate struggles. Guided by the journals she's kept since age fifteen, and brimming with her unique humor and down-to-earth humanity, Open Book is as inspiring as it is entertaining.

This was supposed to be a very different book. Five years ago, Jessica Simpson was approached to write a motivational guide to living your best life. She walked away from the offer, and nobody understood why. The truth is that she didn’t want to lie.

Jessica couldn’t be authentic with her readers if she wasn’t fully honest with herself first.

Now America’s Sweetheart, preacher’s daughter, pop phenomenon, reality tv pioneer, and the billion-dollar fashion mogul invites readers on a remarkable journey, examining a life that blessed her with the compassion to help others, but also burdened her with an almost crippling need to please. Open Book is Jessica Simpson using her voice, heart, soul, and humor to share things she’s never shared before.

First celebrated for her voice, she became one of the most talked-about women in the world, whether for music and fashion, her relationship struggles, or as a walking blonde joke. But now, instead of being talked about, Jessica is doing the talking. Her book shares the wisdom and inspirations she’s learned and shows the real woman behind all the pop-culture cliché’s — “chicken or fish,” “Daisy Duke,” 'football jinx,' “mom jeans,” “sexual napalm…” and more. Open Book is an opportunity to laugh and cry with a close friend, one that will inspire you to live your best, most authentic life, now that she is finally living hers.

Includes the songs “Heartbeat,” “Practice What You Preach,” “Sweet Temptation,” “Your Fool”(featuring Willie Nelson), “Party of One,” and “Free Will” by Jessica Simpson.

Listen to this book! I had planned to read it until I realized Jessica Simpson would be narrating. I loved how raw and real she was while sharing her story. JS is exactly what all women have needed! She’s kind hearted, caring, passionate and one tough chick Once I started listening I didn’t want to stop. The songs she shares at the end are fantastic too! It’s a must listen/read for not only women but anyone struggling to find/appreciate themselves.

Loved how she revealed so many details she didn’t need to disclose. Jessica’s intent is to make the listener feel as if they are on a journey with her. Loved it.

It was interesting to hear what was really happening in her life. With being a celebrity, we only see what the media wants us to see. It was definitely heart-warming and heartbreaking and there were a few "Are you serious?" moments. I'd probably listen to this again later on.

I loved how open and honest she was. She didn’t hold anything back. The way she read her story, she did so that it made this reader feel like she was telling it to me, not just reading the words. Really enjoyed this book!

Loved that Jessica read this herself. She really took you on her emotional journey. I don’t think it would have touched me the same had it been someone else’s voice.

It was interesting hearing her talk about her life through her eyes since I had seen it from the outside through the years. At times her voice was a little annoying and I wasn’t sure if the emotion was “acting” or if she really still felt the emotion. In my opinion it got old and too much for me to handle.

Not inspiring or compelling. Left me with the same impression I had of her from the start. Disgusted by John Mayer.

Loved the vulnerability, truth, love, and light throughout the whole book. From start to finish I cried, laughed, related and was inspired. I felt so close to Jessica and so similar in a (different reality obviously). She was magnificent and her gifts and love of light and kindness and her beautiful voice had my spirits soaring.

I like Jessica Simpson. I wanted to like this book but I couldn’t even finish it. While she was open and raw, her indifference to having any accountability for her life’s actions is frustrating and simply, hard to listen to. She didn’t make it into The Mickey Mouse Club because of Christina and Britney. Her album wasn’t a success because of Tommy Matola and Sony. Her videos weren’t successfull because of MTV and her marriage wasn’t successful because of Nick. She often mentions not wanting to be seen just as a pretty face, but then mentions constantly that everyone tells her how beautiful she is. She talks about how important God is in her life, but doesn’t mention Him at all when she’s flirting and talking to a married man while being married herself. The entire first half of the book is based on hypocrisy. Note I didn’t make it through the second half. I’ve listened to many audiobooks that were narrated by the author. I think she should’ve let a friend narrate it as her voice is incredibly annoying, not to mention how she “cried “ at least once each chapter. Unless you’re a big fan, I’d pass.

I loved hearing Jessica's story in her own words. I did think the book was going to be more about alcoholism then her past relationships but I get that they played a part and it was still very interesting. listened to it in like 3 days.

I expected more based on previous reviews, but I also enjoyed this book from Jessica. Hearing her recount her trauma, triumphs, fails and resurrections must have taken a lot, which makes her brave, IMO. Although, I kinda wish I used my credit for another title. Jessica, thanks for sharing your heart.

oh my gawwddd! who knew jessica simpson was so smart and so down to earth? when I first heard of this book, I thought oh boo hoo poor little rich girl who's gonna whine about her marriage to nick lachey! that's all I ever knew her for. I knew she was a "pop" star but I was never a fan. I did not take an interest in her music then. upon reading this book I became intrigued and Google alot on her. she actually is a super talented singer. I don't know why they tried to change her and make her something she wasn't. I didn't know how intelligent she was. How she went through alot of the same struggles and pain most of us do. I was so obsessed w this book I spent the past 24 hrs, in 2 different sittings finishing it. it was so well written . I felt as though I was there. I cried so many times. And laughed too. I felt so happy for her as she accomplished the things she knew she was her to do. I left religion a long time ago for my personal reasons. (I was raised Christian) alot of her journey she shared made me question my decision. I got chills so many times during this read. Found myself even praying a couple of times. thank you Jessica for sharing sincerely, a new fan ❤

I actually downloaded this book after listening to an Imagined Life Podcast about Jessica. have always liked her, just never considered myself a fan—I was actually interviewed and on Access Hollywood outside of the Charlottesville Rascal Flatts Concert she talks about in the book. I had no idea what life had been like for her until this book. Hearing her words in her own voice MADE this audiobook. You can hear the raw emotion in her voice—happy and sad. Beautifully written, like she’s talking directly to you and telling her truth. You won’t be disappointed.

Bravo... What an amazing job Jessica did with this book. It actually spoke to me. I'm not a religious person but listening to her speak made me think about choices I've made in my life. It's refreshing to hear someone who you thought had the perfect life explain that they didn't and why. I listened to this audio book in 2 days and I was sad for it to end. Thank you for being so open and sharing your story.

I loved the honesty and self reflection of Jessica Simpson as she shared her experiences growing up in a devout religious family and her journey into the music industry while tethered to exploitive expectations set by our masochistic society. I loved that she personally narrated her book because listening to the raw emotion of her voice during her worst heart breaking times allowed me to understand her and love her genuine self.

She sounded so authentic. Comical and loving and full of life. She is an aspiration to me; as a woman, a daughter, a sister, a mom and a wife. My only negative about the memoir is that she seemed very open about all life circumstances she went through but seemed guarded about details with current husband.

The book was very good but her narration was over the top. I felt like she was trying too hard to Be emotional and it was distracting. Really enjoyed her new songs that are at the end of the book.

Miss Jessica Simpson, this was a beautiful book and you did an amazing job narrating. You were my favorite singer when I was younger and my dad took me to your concert for an amazing experience. This book is saw raw and open! And at times I truly felt as if you were talking to me. Your message along the way is so beautiful and I am so happy for you and your journey that lead you here! For someone with a great singing voice, it is disappointing that her speaking voice is like nails on a chalkboard. She sounded like she had a frog in her throat as she croaked through the entire book. She also enjoyed designer brand name dropping throughout. However, I enjoyed her story as a whole and found it interesting

I was never a Jessica Simpson music fan, not because she couldn't sing, but because I listened to different things. I have; however, always loved her personal style. I purchased this book because I thought it would be something different for me. It was and I liked it. She's terribly honest. I don't always listen to my books in one sitting, but, I spent my day off with Jessica. She helped me wash my hair, meal prep for the week, clean the bathroom and tidy the house. Thank you for keeping me entertained, Jessica!! Great book!!

Interesting, I had a 16 hr car ride and my audio book ran out 10 minutes into the drive. I didn’t want to pull over so at the stop light I hit recent releases on my audio app . Light turned green, and I just hit the pretty blonde girl book. Lol, I didn’t have my reading glasses on. I had no idea it was Jessica Simpson. I truest enjoyed this book. It is very relatable to anyone with weight problems and I love how Jessica looks at it. The music at the end is fantastic too .
