Summary
The #1 New York Times bestseller from “the queen of royal fiction” (USA TODAY) Philippa Gregory is a rich, compelling novel of love, sex, ambition, and intrigue surrounding the Tudor court of Henry VIII, Anne Boleyn, and the infamous Boleyn family.

When Mary Boleyn comes to court as an innocent girl of fourteen, she catches the eye of the handsome and charming Henry VIII. Dazzled by the king, Mary falls in love with both her golden prince and her growing role as unofficial queen. However, she soon realizes just how much she is a pawn in her family’s ambitious plots as the king’s interest begins to wane, and soon she is forced to step aside for her best friend and rival: her sister, Anne. With her own destiny suddenly unknown, Mary realizes that she must defy her family and take fate into her own hands.

With more than one million copies in print and adapted for the big screen, The Other Boleyn Girl is a riveting historical drama. It brings to light a woman of extraordinary determination and desire who lived at the heart of the most exciting and glamorous court in Europe, and survived a treacherous political landscape by following her heart.

Excellent book in every way! The narrator has a smooth British accent and easily understood. The story is captivating especially further along into the book when the characters and court life become familiar. It is astounding to learn about King Henry VIII’s reign and how he convinced himself that he was a supreme being, responsible only to himself.

Very interesting and fun to listen to. The narrator is great. I listened to all 21 hours in less than a week!

Wonderful work of historical fiction. Extremely entertaining, but I wish it were the unabridged version!

My wife read this book before I rented it and loved it. I thought maybe it was a "girl book" that I should not bother with but tried it out anyway. I actually loved it. I don't know how much of Gregory's interpretation of the events of that era are true, but her work is well written and very entertaining. Narrator was great.

It is fascinating to think about the other side of the story. Anne Boleyn is so famous in history, with a story that tends to make people feel for her. After this book your views will certainly change.

Another awesome historical fiction work by Philippa Gregory. Love the way she writes and the amount of history the books convey. But I do not care for these abridged versions. You miss so much detail and the story is over too quickly!

The Other Bolyn Girl was a based on a factual story that I was not aware of. The book inspired me to read the actual history. It is shocking to think that in the time of the story that girls were not only not important as people but used as mere pawns for political gain. As for Mary's love interest, the love at first sight and rejection/submission was cheesy. I wish the author would not fall back to stereotypes but develop that story with a more realistic texture. I like historical fiction that reads like reality not a romance.

This novel is a gift. I still miss the Boleyns and the other members of Henry's court, weeks after finishing the novel. There is a richness to everything about the book. I cannot imagine it as being on a page. I felt as if the actress who reads the novel is Mary Boleyn and I rooted for her as she tried to save herself and her children.

I have actually read this book and own the movie. The book is wonderful and the audio version extremely well done, but you definitely loose something in the abridging. Actually you loose a lot. I'm not sure if only an abridged version is available or if that is just what simplyaudiobooks chose to allow us, but if you love this subject (Henry VIII), you really should actually read the book. This version is well done and quick to get through and I do recommend it if you don't need all of the details.

Awesome, written and read very well. I had no idea that all those antics went on in royal courts. I feel totally educated having heard this. After listening to the book, I watched the movie (which I never do, why waste time?) and was extremely let down by the movie. The movie seemed to lack so much information, and having listened to some of the ins and outs, and hearing what lead from one event to the next, left the movie feeling pieced together. This book is highly recommended.

I actually enjoyed this CD very much. Good application of history to an obvious fictious set of dialogue for the characters. Will have to view the movie now that I know the storyline.
