Unabridged Audiobook
I am just loving this book. Saw the first four episodes and this is almost as good with the wonderful narration.
Wonderful!! The narration was fabulous.
I read this book many years ago in a book club but never read more in the series. Thought I’d listen to them for company while driving. We will see how far I get. I don’t remember struggling with Claire’s character when I read the book, but I’m older now and have lived more life. She’s a strong person no doubt, but also often selfish, thoughtless, and the cause of the harm that comes to Jamie. I found myself regularly scolding her as I listened. What bothers me most about it is that it doesn’t make sense.
Fantastic narration and and story
Outlander is one of those rare novels that makes me wish a 4.5-star rating option were available. I came to the book after watching the acclaimed Starz adaptation, which introduced me to Claire Randall, Jamie Fraser, and the sweeping world Diana Gabaldon created. The series was compelling enough that I wanted to experience the source material firsthand—and I’m very glad I did. Gabaldon delivers a richly textured blend of historical fiction, time-travel fantasy, romance, and adventure. Her 1945 combat nurse, Claire Randall, accidentally slips through standing stones in the Scottish Highlands and finds herself thrust into 1743—into a land shaped by clan loyalties, political unrest, and the rising tensions that precede the Jacobite rebellion. What follows is an absorbing, often emotionally intense journey as Claire navigates a world completely foreign to her and finds herself drawn to the young Highland warrior James Fraser. Having watched the TV adaptation first, I was impressed by how faithful the series remains to the novel. That said, the book offers deeper layers of character development, historical detail, and inner conflict—especially in Claire’s increasingly complex struggle between duty to her husband and the irresistible pull she feels toward Jamie. Several moments and nuances in the book never made it to the screen, making this an enriching experience even for seasoned fans of the show. While the pacing occasionally meanders, the storytelling, atmosphere, and emotional resonance more than make up for it. Outlander is immersive, romantic, and unexpectedly profound—a novel that stays with you long after you close the last page. A highly recommended read for fans of historical fiction, time-travel narratives, or anyone who simply loves a sweeping, character-driven story.
Might be interested. I'll keep checking. May be wish list.
