A brilliant teenage boy teaches his dog to talk—and in West Texas, that’s enough to get them both killed.

Danny is a mixed-race teen on the autism spectrum, still reeling from his mother’s murder, trying to make sense of a disconnected father, and a world, that rarely make sense back. Lido, the stray he takes in, isn’t just loyal—he’s observant, irreverent, and has a lot to say once Danny gives him the words.

What starts as an experiment becomes something far more dangerous.

Because Lido doesn’t just speak—he tells the truth.

About people. About power. About the quiet, accepted things no one wants questioned.

As Danny and Lido navigate life in their small town West Texas, their bond deepens into something rare: two minds, human and canine, trying to understand life, loss, and the strange rules that govern both. But insight comes at a cost. In a place where inventive ideas and difference draw suspicion and truth invites retaliation, they find themselves pulled into a chain of events that turns them into unlikely activists, reluctant fugitives, and targets.

Darkly funny, sharp-eyed, and unexpectedly moving, Particles of Light is not a sentimental “boy and his dog” story—it’s a story about connection, survival, and what happens when someone finally says what everyone else is too afraid to admit.
