Summary
Before she wrote Little Women and Little Men, Louisa, writing under the pseudonym A.M. Barnard, had this `blood and thunder' thriller (as she called them) published in 1863 by a weekly pulp magazine. This was during the period when Louisa worked a nurse during the American Civil war. The rigid and unfair roles of men and women of this period, their expectations and desires, plays a large in this story of betrayed love, anger, petulance, and ultimately, vengeance. The story is well written and plotted of course, being an Alcott story, so listeners can expect to enjoy a captivating and satisfying story read to them by one of the best and most highly polished readers around. I didn't like the book. it was difficult to identify with the characters. The narrator's distinctions of each character was not strong and I couldn't tell if they were men or women.

Louisa May Alcott deserves all the accolades she receives. This is on par with her other writings. Try this book.

Hard to believe this was written by Louisa May Alcott. The anger of a woman spurned. Quite a Vixen really, But in her plans for retribution, Pauline uses other people. Even the infatuation of a young man who would do anything for her. Makes you wonder how blinded by vengeance she was that she could not see the ripples her revenge was making, nor to look ahead at how they might be affected by it. I really would have liked to see Pauline learn that it wasn’t all about her! But then the book is titled Pauline’s Passion and Punishment. The reader was very good. Her reading manner did not disturb the understanding at all like some.
