Unabridged Audiobook
When I first started listening to this story, I felt myself becoming really depressed - and worried for Izzy - at the whole premise of the infinite family project. As the story unfolded, I was less depressed but always felt the “cons” outweighed the “pros.” It’s an interesting and challenging premise that makes this story quite unique. I felt that the relationship between the two main characters was not allowed to develop over the course of the story, except in a few hastily written scenes, and so it seemed to this reader to be almost a sudden and forced plot development toward the end. Thérèse Plummer works her magic, as always, giving each character a voice and personality - from the men to the women to the children. Love her narration!
I enjoyed reading the book, but I feel like the book skimmed the surface of the experience. There were a lot of missed opportunities where the relationships between the parents in the experiment could have been further hashed out, a more in depth exploration of the emotional and psychological toll the experiment took, or different point of views would have lead to a more well rounded understanding and more satisfying read. In the end, I liked it, but felt underwhelmed.
